Hi, I am 27 and will be having my first Bone scan on Friday, of the hip. What should I expect? We would do my back but I just had a two level fusion, so she (my DR) isn't sure she can do one there yet. I have been on depo for eleven years and have a hx of this in my family, plus other factors to concern me. I appreciate it, thank you!

this is an osteoporosis board and no one can tell me what will be done to me when I have this test? Maybe I should rephrase-are needles involved? How long does it take? (I am recovering from a fusion, one month post op, have sitting restrictions)

This is a very benign test, no needles, no invasion of any kind. You will simply lie on a table and a machine placed above will pass over your hip and spinal area to read the density of your bones. It only takes minutes and is nothing to fear, similar to having an x-ray.
