My husband is 73 and very healthy - never taken a prescription drug in his life. Amazing. His cholesterol has very gradually gone up with age -- he bounces around between 180 and 230 - blood work in June '04 gave these numbers C-229, HDL 57, LDL 143 Tri 144. At this age he refuses to deny himself food that he wants. The Dr. put him on 10 mgs. of Lipitor -- his cholesterol and all numbers were excellent - Total C. went to 168. LDL dropped to 82 - all other numbers were excellent (even while eating all the bad things he loves). I might also add that he is not overweight, goes to the gym three times a week, plus is extremely active. He can run circles around most 50 year old men.

My question is: I read an article that stated that people in good health with no heart issues, (and no family heart issues) generic Lovastatin works as well as Lipitor at a third its cost. Needless to say he would like to pay less for his medicine, but he does not want to short change his health.

Does anybody here have an opinion?
Thanks,
Brenda
