weight loss on a treadmill
Anyone have good routines or workouts on a treadmill that would be good for weight loss. I have about 15 lbs I'd like to lose. and I am new at the gym and need some good advice. I will be going 3 x a week maby 4 with my best friend. and we both would like some help from those with more knowledge on this subject

1st rule of thumb for weight loss - get a good diet.
as far as treadmill- 30-45minutes 3 to 4 x per week at your optimal heart rate. Optimal heart rate = 220-your age x .65 to .85

Thank you,
But how fast should I go mph and should I be inclined or declined it is a nice treadmill I walked on the last time I was there. There are several programs to use. I just dont know which ones would be best.

That is all determined by heart rate - everyone is different. Keep your heart rate at that target zone and you can do whatever you like as far as programs.

Ok I am 29 and I did the little math calculation you recommended and I came up with 124 When I was at the gym using the treadmill a day ago my heart rate was around 95. what is a normal resting heartrate?

shoot for 125-160 range when working out. average man is 70 and average woman is 75 most people are between 60 and 90bpm with well conditioned athletes dropping well below that.
resting heart rate is done upon waking while still in bed.

HIIT training on the tredmill is proven to get you in shape faster, as long as you keep to a nutritional diet. Its an eight week program...3 times a week. Always warm up and cool down for 5 mins before the HIIT training but you start out doing a 4 minute session...
first warm up for 5 minutes....then in the 4 minute session you would sprint for the first 30 secs, then jog for the next 30 secs, then sprint for 30, then jog for 30, then sprint for 30, then jog for 30, then sprint for 30, then jog for 30...then 5 minute cool down. You would do this 14 minute total workout for the first 2 days...say monday and wed. THen on friday you would bump up the HIIT training by a minute, one more 30 sec sprint and one more 30 second jog before your cool down. You would do the new 15 minute total workout for 2 days...say friday and then the next monday....and you would keep increasing by 1 minute every 2 days....by the eighth week you will be up to 15 minutes of sprinting and 15 minutes of jogging plus your warm up of 5 mins and cool down of 5 min for a nice 40 minute exercise. I hope this isnt too confusing...just search the web for HIIT training if you dont get what im saying...but its alot better then just moderate cardio. I just started this HIIT tredmill training...seems to be working me better than just running for 30 minutes.
