Hi Mayansun
What do you mean they clipped it???? Where exactly was it??? They've just found one on my husband's Carotoid Artery (small, but he had a sister who died of a burst one) . We are waiting to see the Specialist. How big was yours and where was it???? Tx Karon

I had a 3mm aneurysm slipped last year. This invloves cutting the skull open and literally putting a minature 'clamp' on the aneurysm. Its not as bad as it seems. I had the op at the beginning of June. When I came to, I was very swollen and groggy but no real pain at all. I was in Hospital for a week and then sent home. I was out of work for 8 weeks in total & was on no medication at all from the moment I left hospital. There have been no side affects other than the fact that I can no longer play competitive soccer and I have to be careful not to get a bad knock on that part of my head as it will always be a bit weak.

The alternative to 'Clipping' is 'Coiling' but this is not always possible. This involves entering the body via an artery (usually in the groin), and travelling up thje body to the aneurysm and 'stuffing' it with a metallic coil. This procedure is obviously a lot easier and quicker to recover from. It all depends on the shape & size of the aneurym as to which procedure they can use.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your answer.
Where exactly in the brain was it??? On the Carotoid Artery??
Was this your first one?? (my husbands is 3 to 4 mm on the Carotoid Artery). I hear usually they do not operate when it is that small. Did they give you some type of dye test before they decided to operate or did they just go by the MRI??? Tx again
