I've had IBS for years but was just recently diagnosed. I've had an esophogram, endoscopy, and a colonoscopy done - all which came back fine. I could have sworn there was an underlying issue and that it can't just be IBS, but it is. My stomach hurts 24/7. I have been prescribed Levbid and Bentyl and both drugs make me feel 'out of it'. Is there ever going to be a cure for this horrible syndrome??! Anyone else's experiences please post.

Ummmm... All I can say about a cure is there are new medicines in the "trial" phases... similar to Lotronex, but for men and women. Lotronex was the closest thing to a cure for some (as far as medicine goes)....
I don't remember what the medicine is called, but in the clinical studies it's showed to be very promising...
We just have to wait on that

Try taking caltrate. It sure did help me with IBS and I've tried everything.

I tried Bentylol (Canadian equivalent of Bentyl) last summer. I took it for less than two weeks because it spaced me out completely. I constantly felt like I had a two-drink buzz. And I was only taking less than 1/3 of the dose. It didn't do anything for my symptoms. One interesting side effect that it had was that it made my vision better! I also tried Dicetel a couple of years ago and I was in the bathroom within half an hour with horrible cramps and diarrhea. I had a upper GI and small bowel test two years ago and it showed that while for most people the barium takes 1 to 3 hours to go through their system, in me it only took 20 minutes. It was already coming out before I even left the clinic. I had a colonoscopy last year that showed no problems. The last time I saw my gastroenterologist, which was just after my colonoscopy, he said that I probably have IBS, gave me a brochure on it that was printed in 1993, and sent me on my way. He didn't tell me to come back for a follow-up or give me any other medication options either.
I just started seeing a new GP two weeks ago because my old one didn't seem to take me seriously. He just told me that I was stressed and I should relax. When I told him that I get full fast and sometimes I can't even swallow one more bite of food, he told me that what I was describing to him wasn't a physical symptom, and asked me if I had a chicken bone stuck in my throat. My new GP sent me for an ultrasound last week which showed that I have fat on my liver. I am 5'6", 117 pounds, and he said it showed the amount of fat he would expect to see on somebody who is overweight. Could this be the source of my problems? I have always thought all along that I am not digesting foods properly and getting the nutrients out of them. Everything just seems to fly through me and I can't gain weight. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
