hey folks, I haven't been back to the boards in a while (I posted on allergies/asthma a few times.

Well now I have a new problem. The last week or so, I've noticed a small bump right above the clitoris area. I can't really see "down there" too well but tried to look with a mirror and it does seem white sort of. So I did some research but only came up with STDs and warts. That would make NO sense whatsoever since I am not sexually active, have never had sex with a man in my life, and my last "sexual encounter" which was very brief, was a good 7 or 8 years ago with a woman. Which brings up another question, I have only been to a gyno once before (I know, very bad) and that was before I had the encounter above.

I plan on going to a gyno to get it checked, but I'm worried and curious to know what it could be.

Most likely just a sebacous cyst or what is called molluscum(not quite sure of the spelling).both can be popped and drained and will be gone.Nothing major.i have had these and the first one i had popped by my gyno and the one i got after,i took care of myself by just squeezing it like you would a pimple?and its been gone now for over a year.I am almost certain this is what you probably have but you should see the doc just to make sure.Marcia

ITA Sounds like a blocked sebaceous gland.

Thanks for the info...I tried to make an appointment today with a gyno, but they are closed weekends so I only was able to leave a voice mail. I guess I'll get on top of it Monday morning. The medical profession sucks because I never seem to be able to get an appointment anytime SOON enough when I have issues...should I tell them about this over the phone, perhaps that would get me in sooner?

One more thing too, it seems to be a little itchy every so often, is that also consistent with what you both think it could be?

OK well I managed to get an appointment today with the gyno. I told her about the bump, and she examined it while asking me a bunch of questions. SHe didn't think it looked like a cyst, she said it was more wart-like. She did the rest of the exam and told me to watch it and if it didn't go away or got worse, to come back & she would biopsy it. However, I wasn't happy with that, so I questioned her further. I asked if she could do a biopsy now just to get it over with, but she said she couldn't cuz of "insurance issues" whatever that means. So, she said I can make the appointment to come back in a week or so.

Then I confirmed with her, giving my pretty much non-existent sexual contant with ANYONE other than one female about 7 or 8 years ago, the chances of this being anything STD related are slim, and she agreed. So I asked, well then, I know I am prone to having warts on my hands over the years, and lately I've been dealing with eczema. So I know that those are all sorts of skin issues and could be related. So I asked if it's possible that something like that could have infected there, she said "sure, maybe". I love how they never confirm or deny anything, but I guess they can't.

Anyway, my question now is....if she didn't seem to want to biopsy this right away, only after I suggest it, do you think that's a good sign that it's nothing serious to worry about? Because now my mind is filled with massive scary thoughts like cancer or some odd uncureable disease. How good are doctors at visually guessing things, and if it was something SO serious, should I believe that she would have suggest the biopsy before I did? I asked her if everything else during the exam was fine and she said yes, totally. Of course she'll send the pap out, not sure how long that takes.

Anyway, please let me know if this all sounds standard to you guys...thanks.

I really think that the possibility of this being anything really ominus is pretty slim. And the fact that the doc didn't jump on it right then and there and do that biopsy would most likely indicate that she believes this is nothing really serious.i am rather suprised that she didn't think this was just a benign cyst or something along those lines as what you described sounds just like one.But I guess without actually seeing it we cannot really say for sure what else she sees.i would just relax for now and wait til she decides to biopsy it next week.i still think that this is probably some sort of a cystic formation but thats just my opinion. Please keep me posted,K?Marcia

Hi,
I'm sure if she was really concerned she would have gone for the biopsy straight away. Did she mention that there was any chance that a wart from your hand could have caused the 'wart' down there?

Thanks feelbad, I will definitely keep you posted after I have the biopsy thing done.

Bartel, I actually asked her that myself. I said considering my only sexual exerience was quite a few years ago, the odds of it being sexually related are kind of slim, and she agreed. Then I said how I have gotten warts on my hands in the past and was it possible that I somehow infected it there, and she said something like "yeah sure that's possible". That's one thing that bugs me about doctors, YOU ask them questions and they sort of agree but never really give you a full opinion one way or the other.

But, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the advice!

Hey just wanted to post an update on this. The gyno appointment went well, the pap was normal, and everything else was in order according to her.
She called me a few days ago with the result of the biopsy. She said it was negative, and that it appears to be something called "lichen sclerosis" which I kind of suspected it was from my own research. I'm definitely relieved it's not anything worse, but I still am kind of grossed out by it. Apparently, there's no known cause for it, it's just some type of skin condition. And also, there is no "cure", just treatment.

I asked her a few questions, she seemed very confident that it's nothing at all to worry about. Then she asked if it bothers me, and I said it does itch at times, so she said she'd call in a prescription type cream for me to use when it does. But now I have more questions, of course. Does anyone know how to prevent it from spreading to anywhere else? It says it's not contagious at all, so that's a good thing. Also, since the area it's in, and the itcyness of it, I can't help but think it's going to be a problem with any type of sexual activity. Does anyone have it, and know if the creams to treat it help it go away?
