My DH was given some for a pulled muscle in his back. He says it doesn't seem to be working. Is it very strong?

It's not an opiate pain med, It's just expensive Ibuprohen, another NSAID before the newer and more dangerus Cox 2 inhibitors came out. I say more dangerous because in the last few months all the cox 11 NSAIDS have come unde fire, First Viox, then Bextra and now Celebrex. They compare Ibuprophen to Tyelenol 3 and darvecet.

The idea is that by reducing the swelling around an injury it will reduce the pain.
