I've missed a dose on 3x a day, and just felt a little out of it till I took it later - typical higher pain levels, not quite feeling right, ...etc But actual feeling sick beyond that starts about 16-19 hours after the last dose has worn off. Sooner if you started tapering down on the day(s) leading up to it.

I've been forced off due to financial reasons before, and my experience was with tapering the dose to try to cut down, went from 3x to 2x a day for 2 days to 1x in the morning and a half dose in the evening for one day(not a good idea but I'm tolererant) to nothing and one half dose left to stop anything I couldn't/didn't want to deal with. I felt the drop from 3x to 2x, but mostly in terms of having bad pain a few hours each day, when I cut down to 1 1/2 the pain became a lot worse. It was approximately 24 hours after that when I got really sick from it, similar to having a nasty flu with a minor bit of food poisoning. I took a half dose then, and used that time to get to the drug store and buy what I needed to deal with it (immodium, antihistamine to stop the sneezes and sniffles). About 8 hours after that last 1/2 dose I felt it kicking in again. I was fine within 3 days of that. So I really had about 5 days of it all together.

Knowing what I know now, I would have try to stockpile at least 10 days worth at your regular dose and use that to taper if you are ever forced into that situation, that way you'll get it a lot milder than what I did.
