I just (1/2 hr ago) got diagnosed with hep C and I know it is from my ex. Anyway my husband is going for a new job that he really wants. He is worried about, I guess they give a physical before they hire you. It's for a gas co. Do they check for hepc? and can they not give him the job if they did find him positive for hep c? Not sure if on a regular physical they just randomly check for hepC.

He cannot legally be denied the job even if he is hepatitis C positive.
To protect himself, he needs to get a WRITTEN offer letter prior to having any physical exams.
A recent (2002) Supreme Court decision specifically on employment and hepatitis C found that he cannot be denied employment UNLESS a specialist in liver disease says he is unable to perform the job. The company doctors are not sufficient to make this determination.
There is almost no circumstance where having hepC would eliminate a person from employment.
But protect yourself anyway and always get the offer in writing FIRST.
For more on the Supreme Court decision click "legal isssues" in the quicklinks on the website in my signature. The case is Echabel vs Chevron.
I hope this helps,

You have a very low viral load (good news!)
What were the tests that were below range and what leads your doctor to think that it means cirrhosis? Cirrhosis can only be diagnosed reliably through a biopsy, so why not ask why that hasn't been ordered?
You must be weak from all that blood they took!
Hang in there.

I've had Hep C for years and I've also had many physicals. I don't think companies check for hepC. Even if they do, it will only show a high enzym count which can actually be caused by many factors and cannot without doubt suggest HepC. There is NO actual test to prove Hep C, only a calculation from many tests. Most the physicals I've endured have been more concerned with the heart. I had to walk a treadmill and climb steps, in which then they listen to my heart. There were blood tests, like dibetis, but none that kept me from being employed. I don't think the company is going to order a liver biopsy. However, I do think they might check for HIV. It really depends on the company. I wouldn't worry if I were him. Most these basic doctors do the physicals for the money. They don't get real detailed.
