View Full Version : New Homorrhoid Treatment - Infrared Coagulation?

I received this in the mail regarding a new treatment called IRC (Infrared Coagulation). I was wondering if anyone had any input on this new treatment? Is it worth my time or should I not even bother?

Also.. I was applying some hemorrhoid cream recently and noticed blood.. Should I refrain from applying the cream if there is bleeding? It wasn't a lot of blood, just normal hemorrhoid blood.

Thanks!!

I had infrared coagulation treatment twice last year. For me it did not reduce my symptoms. However, it is supposed to work for small hem. at least a majority of the time. This is according to my doctor and some medical web sites.I believe it only deals with one hem. at a time. My doctor said it often takes more than one treatment and is not always effective. It was uncomfortable and somewhat painful during the procedure but had no lasting painful effects. Even though it did not help me, I would strongly consider it if your doctor both recommends this and has significant experience with the treatment.

I actually just created a new topic about this (oops). I had it done yesterday and it was so incredibly painful that I started crying in the office and all the way back to my car. I can't imagine going back for more (since the Doc couldn't finish). I think I was especially sensitive. SHe said next time she'll get a gel with a little numbing agent in it. But by 1-2 hours later I felt fine.
