I just had my regular visit to the cardiologist who told me my bp was ok (135/80), that my heart rate was where he wanted it at 55, and that my stress ekg was fine other than occassional PVC's during exercise. However, my heart is still enlarged even after 2 years of good bp's and a low HR from Altace and Atenolol. My ejection fraction has been 50 for the past couple of measurements and was down to 40 before we got the bp under control.

Is this as good as it gets? Shouldn't my heart return to a normal size and the EF improve a bit more? Thanks for your ideas!

Your heart went through hypertrophy because it automatically sensed a need to work harder to meet your metabolic needs. However your ejection fractions seem to be better, however still in a normal individual it is around 70. I dont think your heart will ever go back to a normal size because it has already increased in size and function and your heart still has the same problem but the drug is contorlling your body from not overowrking itself. I dont know what else to say b.c i have limited info. I am only a future [ please carefully review the posting rules - do not reveal your past, current or future profession ] def ask your doctor befor anything.
