If my boyfriend gave me genital herpes type 1 and he goes down on me when I dont have an outbreak can he break out?? or is it because he gave it to me, he cant really break out? i'm sure he can, but what are the chances??

The only thing he'd have to worry about is reinfecting himself in other areas on his oral/facial area. It would be rare though since he has the antibodies, but still feasible.

For instance, I get cold sores only on the right side of my mouth; if I were to touch an open cold sore with my finger and touch the left side of my face I could potentially reinfect that side also if I had a break in the skin etc. Again, the good thing is that it's rare for that to happen.

OK, so your bf has oral herpes and gave you genital herpes. You should be more worried about passing GH to him from genital to genital contact, because as he already has the virus orally, he is unlikely to catch it there again. You could pass the virus on to his genitals even though he already has oral HSV1 (I know because this happened to me).

The good news as the above poster says is that it is unlikely for a person to be reinfected with HSV1 in another place if they already have it in one place IF THEY AVOID ACTIVE SORES - the lower level of the virus from shedding is probably something the antibodies they have can deal with - so why overload the system?

DO NOT LET SOMEONE GO DOWN ON YOU WHEN YOU HAVE AN OUTBREAK. It just isn't worth it!! If this is something that has already happened, try to relax - your bf already has this orally and expose to an active sore may trigger an outbreak orally for him, but I wouldn't have thought that was a hugely big deal for someone who already had oral HSV1. But if you haven't done this yet - I mean, don't! Active sores are always a no-no, no matter who is infected with what kind of herpes and where they have it! Can't say it clearly enough!!
