my psychiatrist, a nurse for my pulmonologist, and a pharmacist have told me that glucosamine is seen to be helpful with fibromyalgia. they mentioned taking 1500 mg daily. i got a 1500 mg tablet, took it on a full stomach every morning for a week, and it upset my stomach so badly (nausea) that i had to stop it.

the pharmacist said it was probably dose-related, and if i try a smaller dose i shouldn't get nauseated.

i have been told since that the usual dose is 500 mg 3x daily. however, yesterday when i went looking for it, i could only find 1000 mg tablets. i got one, but the box says to take 2000 mg daily (as did every other brand). is this a usual dose?

if so, i plan to start with 1000 mg and increase to 2000 mg (1000 2x a day) as tolerated.

i also have arthritis and bursitis, evidently, so it should help with that as well.

thanks for any help- my question here is if 2000 mg daily is a regular dose.

My mom takes 500mg, 2-3 times per day for her osteo-arthritis in her knee. It makes her joints feel "lubricated". The pills she takes are 900mg but are glucosamine and chondrotin (500 mg glucosamine and 400 mg chondrotin).

Did you try taking it with food and a big glass of water to help your stomach? I find that I can't take any pills or supplements without food and a couple big glasses of water. And try not to lie down after taking it -- it's supposed to be harder for your body to digest it.

hello,

i do take it with food and fluids, but still get sick. :(

i just now wrote to the company and asked if it is ok to cut them in half; only taking 500 mg at a time. i have decided to go up to the full 2000 mg, since i don't think an extra 500 mg could hurt, and that is the suggested dose on so many of the bottles.

thanks!
