I've been very moody lately. It may have something to do w/PMS, but it wasnt this severe until now.

I was miserable the other night...for stupid reasons that wouldnt usually bother me. I find it hard to concentrate and my memory is going bad. I have a bad breakout before my period and I gain almost 10 lbs around my period.

What causes a hormone imabalance?
What is hormone testing like?
And if I do have one, what sort of treatment would a doctor perscribe?

Does the weight eventually come off after your period? If so it is probably water retention and bloating. Are your periods regular? As far as the breakouts, I always get breakouts at different points in my cycle. It doesn't really sound like any hormonal imbalance I can think of. If it bothers you maybe a hormone workup would be helpful.

Hormone imbalances are going to come from your pituitary, thyroid, ovaries, or adrenal glands. Personally, I have a pituitary tumor that secretes a hormone.
Testing is easy. Just a blood test for most things. For cortisol I have to collect all my urine for 24 hours.
Treatment really depends on what is wrong. There are medications available for a lot of hormone imbalances. For mine, surgery is the only cure.
I'm a big believer in listening to your body. I knew something was wrong with me and kept pestering my doctor. I even had one that did an MRI and found the tumor, but assumed it wasn't secreting any hormones because I didn't fit the typical patient profile. So he didn't even tell me about it. I kept getting more opinions and finally discovered I have a tumor and it is secreting something. So if you think things aren't right, don't be afraid to ask your doctor about it.

i went to the doctor today. he ordered for me to have a lab work done to test my hormones. he said he may put me on birth control. :/

im kinda iffy about birth control. maybe because im uninformed. he says its to regulate my period. im 10 days late but im not pregnant (he confirmed that today).

{removed}Please post birth control question on the birth control board.
