 My name is amber and I am currently 170 pounds, 5' 8" and I am 18 years old. I have decicded to change my lifestyle by incorporating proper diet and exercise into my life. I Have been working out since 1/3/05. I do intervals of walking and running on the treadmill for 50 minutes a day. this includes warming up and down for five minutes a piece. Futhermore, I do resistance training too along with push ups and crunches on the regular. My resistance training involves mon-lowerbody--tues-upperbody and I keep going in a pattern on a weekly basis. I also try to eat whole grains, more fruits and veggies, lean meats, and I drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. Can someone please give me heads up on how long it is going to take me to lose 40 pounds. by the way I have lost the first five pounds.

Congrats on the loss so far! Sounds like you have a great plan there. Make sure you have a rest day each wekk in there too. So to lose 40 pounds will probably take right around 5 months if you're really consistent. The body can only burn about 2 pounds a week under optimal conditions, so it's a bit of a slow process, but it sounds like you have a righteous game plan. :) good luck!

Congrats! Sounds like a great plan. I am in the same boat as you. I want to lose about 30-35lbs. I am 5'6 and weight 160lbs. I workout using an exercise bike 5 days a week for 30 minutes, and also do crunches, lift 10lb weights. I only started last week...but I have dropped 2 lbs already! Keep up the great work!!

Congratulations to the both of you. Your program sounds just right. Keep at it and you will be richly rewarded. Believe me, you will be VERY happy if you continue with it on a regular basis. Just remember to make it a lifelong habit and you will not only look great but hopefully also be healthier.
Your beginning weight loss sounds really good. Actually, in the beginning you may lose more than 2 pounds per week. Later on the weight loss will slow down to 2 or even 1 pound a week. Don't get discouraged! That's just the normal way bodies adjust to the new regime of eating and exercising. And try not to weigh yourself every day although it is very tempting to do so. On some days you may step on the scale and not only see no progress but actually see a gain. Be aware that unless you had been seriously overeating for a while, the weight gain on the scale is not really fat but water and it will leave as quickly as it came. Just make sure you drink LOTS of water to help flush the bloat out.

Make sure you go by looks not scale. Muscle is denser than fat, so you might look the same but gain weight. Don't let the scale throw you off, i lost 60lbs over a years timespan and its all thanks to not paying attention to that damn scale. Looser clothes, peoples comments, and my awesome energy kept me motivated. Whatever you do stick with what you do, you won't regret it...doesn't feel like a chore after 2-3 months....i love working out, and don't mind watching what i eat now...i dont crave crap...worked to hard to go back to the way i was. :P
GOOD LUCK!
