My mother, age 45, mother of three, has been bleeding for almost four months now. She is
going to have a DNC in a few days and some sort of scope thing done. Her
OBGYN said she has a cyst and he is going to drain it. There are two
problems here however.....One she has bronchial asthma and she is afraid she
will not make it out of the surgery and two we think it might be ovarian
cancer that hasn't been detected yet. Since she has been bleeding for; four
months.........is there any chance that if it is cancer that she will make
it? She hasn't had cancer before and her mother has had breast twice and eye
once. This doesn't run in her family. Do you think a hysterectomy will
"cure" her, and will she live during/after the hysterectomy surgery? PLEASE
RESPOND ASAP! Thank you We don't know if she has had a CA-125 test...........I'm going to find out tomorrow.

A CA125 is very important. It will be a good indicated as to whether or not something is going on. Below 35 is normal.

Also, what about the cyst. Are they going to biopsy. Doing so during surgery that way if it is cancer they can remove it while they are in there. The surgery should be done by a certified gyn oncologist. That is very important in case there is something there.

It may be wise to seek a second opinion. Log on to the ovca.com or ovarian.org web sites. There are boards there with alot of informed people that will be able to help you make the right decisions before surgery.

Good Luck.
