Well , I made it thru as you all said i would , i was only in the hospital for three days after the L5-S1 fusion, The surgen said that the disk was so dammaged that it came out in one piece, which is unusal, so he used cages and sponges and bmp for the posteior fusion, only a 2" incision, only used 2 screws and 1 rod to help stablize everything.i was on morphen for about 22 hours then taken off and but on oxycontion IR every 2 hours, pain is not that bad , and i have a soft brace abd pain meds, so just take the meds and recover. But i feel real lucky , i can do stairs and take a shower , and sit and laydown , all the numbnes and pain in the right leg is gone. Time will only tell,
so far so good :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing:

Oh so happy that you are doing well and that surgery went well too. That is wonderful. Now, just take it easy and don't rush things and I bet you will continue to have nothing but good things to report.

YAY!!! :bouncing: I'm so glad that everything went well for you, and I'm very impressed you were only in the hospital for 3 days! Now that you're home, make sure you take it slow at the beginning. I found that using lots of ice packs helped bring the inflammation down sooner (my whole lower back was extremely swollen), and also helped reduce the pain. Walking helps too, but not too much right away. Welcome back! :D
Jessie
P.S. Please thank Mrs. Stid for keeping us updated on your progress!

I am sorry you are alone! What happened to your wife? Won't she help with things including the dogs? Gosh-well, don't be afraid to NOT do things. Some things can wait, don't push it or you'll end up in a lot of pain. Many of us learned that the hard way! I hope things get better and am just glad you feel better.

i am doing as much as i can , i took a shower today and shaved and made myself breakfast and lunch , my wife's mom got real sick and had to have emergency surgery for a bowel , so she is living there and taking care of her, she stops by and seesif i need anything. So she need to take care of her, I can take care of me. I am a big boy.
just going slow, i might hire someone to come in and clean and do laundry. for a few weeks,. i will get by.

Stidw,
How ya doin' guy?
I was wondering if you felt up to teling us about your surgery? When you woke up, how did you feel, etc? Or was it all a blur from the pain meds?
How did your first walk feel?
