umm.. what exactly are the symptoms of bi polar?

I started taking the depo prevera shot for my birth control and ever since i go from being perfect fine and happy like i normally am to just completely upset over nothing.. and im down for a day or two and then im okay again...and its over nothing.. ive also noticed that ever since i started the depo everything that used to not bother me does.. the stuff that i never used to even think twice about now bothers me so bad i sometimes hold back tears and i am one of those people who absolutely HATES crying. I constantly think about the many ways i could die each day and its just so different than how i used to be.. i used to be a guys girl and now im a complete girly girl who cant keep her emotions straight... do you think that i might have had some repressed crayzeness goin on up in my head and the shot has released that? Im stopping the shot in march cuz thats when i'll be due for my next dosage. what do u guys think?

Oh Dear
The depo shot can so disrupt your hormones. Both our daughters went on them
and as time came due for the next shot they turned into monsters. Im bipolar
and so is one of our daughters. The effects of the depo mock bipolar so close
except for the manic's. I did some research and found that the depo shot is
a large dose of synthentic progesterone simulating the natural progesterone our
body makes during pregnancy tricking the body into thinking it's pregnant thus
stopping the monthly cycle. For some people it can really mess up their hormones
and monthly cycles for several months after stopping the depo. Dont quote me
on this but because the progesterone level is so high it seems to me the body
was lacking estrogen. Talk to your doctor about a trial of estrogen to help level your moods.
Good Luck, K

No, not that bad but some women do become moody. The depo doesnt give you all the pregancy symptoms just the void of cycles and as you found out it mood swings. My youngest daughter was only 17 when she got her first depo. As far as the estrogen a women needs both hormones to stay in balance. Estrogen is necessary for a women to ovulate (eggs) that why when a women becomes pregnant the body produces progesterone which stops ovulation. Another simple approach to balance you system is just to go on the pill for a couple of months to balance out those hormones. Take care, K

I can certainly attest to the power of hormones. My bipolar kicked in when I was 13 - about the time my body started producing hormones.
They put me on the pill at 16 to regulate my periods and I think that was a bit of a help with the bipolar at the time.
I wasn't properly diagnosed and put on rx until I was 30 so you can imagine the disruptions in my live between 16 & then!
