Hi
I'm not a parent of a childw/ autism. just an adult who suspects that I might be on the spectrum. In the last few months I have started the process of getting evaluated. There's a lot of paperwork that I had to fill out and now I'm waiting for the appointment to be set for my evaluation. I've had high anxiety through this whole thing. I can't imagine what I'm going to be like when I go in for the testing, probably a nervous wreck.
It has been interesting to read the posts on this message board. Some of the stories you all share about your kids I can relate to. I did some of the same things as a kid. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

You are not alone! Remember that Autism is just a word. A diagnosis does not change who you are. It may just be a relief to get a diagnosis. I know that when I finally got the diagnosis for my son it was liberating for me. Good Luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I will feel better once it's done. I'm having the evaluation done at a developmental disabilities center. A friend of mine referred me to them and said they do good work there. I hope so. I have called the center to ask some questions and they have not been great at returning my calls. I realize they must be busy and my case is uncommon for them because they usually work with kiids. but my goodness they could call me back. I think this is adding to my anxiety. This is really important to me and I hope I'm taken seriously and not blown off by them.

 Even if you are digonosed that you have autism you are no different then anyone else you just have a special need. But once you find out wheather or not you have autism if you do have autism you can get the support that you need and the care you need. But alaways remember you just have a special need but your no different then anyone else and don't let anyone tell you other wise! With care,Bonnie :)
