please don't say I told you so. I'm sure many of you may recall a few months ago I was having a tough time with my "Screamer Boss." Believe me, I have wanted, attemped to search on...but after working 11 to 13 hours every day I am whipped and in pain...plus the stress keeps me insecure now. This job since October 2003 has completely changed my life. I have no life. Once my boss found out that I had fibro she mentioned to the VP, who I am friends with that I am now an insurance liability and since than she has done every thing mean to drive me out. Constant screaming and mental abuse. Believe me you could never imagine. I know I couldn't have. The funny thing is that everyone else in the company truly loves my compassion to look out for everyone, bring out a smile when their down....go the extra mile and have so many wonderful friends there. At our Annual Christmas party that I run, there were 10 case of 24 cokes in my care from shopping at Cosco for 100 + people....also the honeybacked ham store, etc. This was all done on my own. I wasn't able to carry the soda's in and asked if I could get some help. The comes out and starts yelling at me that this is my job and do not take her employees away from what they should be doing. I was just so tired after shopping all day with a $249 budget for over 100 people and make it unbelievable. Finally one of the guys said to Linda, you cannot expect her to carry all of that heavy stuff into the building. She said, well tell her to take one can at a time. He proceed to start taking them in and my wicked stepmother started screaming at me that I should have been faster on my feet. She was so angry that I didn't carry it in ....she figured payback was yet to come. Well it did....she gave eachof the people at the party a $100 gift cheque...how do I know...I followed behind her reminding her to give each person from my list a cheque and marking it off my list. All names were marked off but mine....she purposely didn't give me one. It was just hurtful. She said that I didn't deserve one because I took longer getting back to set up. The beltway was shut down in both directions, I called her and she didn't belueve during the middle of the day. I tried to make her understand there was very little you could do in one day with about 250 people on a 250 budget. She wanted sit down, meat, shrimp, sushi, cheese platters, fruit platters....veggies...desserts....stop my the honey backed ham store and rob a few hams or buy very small ones with the left over budget. All in all she did feel I deserved one because she was in one of those mental break downs. I had worked so hard 5pm until 12 mindnight and not one penny.

Please support me everyone and help keep my strenght. They are basically telling me I have two more weeks left. I will not resign, they will have to fire me. I have worked many late nights and never got paid. Linda is so bitter because i commented to a coworker who asked how I was spending it...that I didn't get one. Linda did not want that know that she had decided I would not get one. It got back to her and she went crazy :jester: about it. She called me into her office and said she had something for me. I said no thanks and and she threw it at me and hit me in the face. I simply picked it up and said I'm sure my daughter will like this.

Well I'm getting sleepy  ...another long and bad :( feeling dayI have ahead of me....

This is above and beyond anything acceptable for even "normals". She has physically assaulted you, and a report to the police is in order. Why fear for a job she is going to make sure you are removed from anyway. This is intolerable. Physical assault, demoralizing verbal abuse and intimidation are issues that need to be reported to not only her boss (there is always someone higher up!) but to the proper legal authorities.

I am new to this board but I do post in pain management and I just have to say I totally agree with the first poster. No one should have to work under that type of supervisor, boss, whatever you want to call her. She reminds me more of a tyrannical ruler. I definitely would report her and then look for a different job where you would be more appreciated. Does no one there stand up to her?? If not then I can see how she became that way. You definitely have my support, also my hope that you will see you are too good to be treated in this manner.

Get an attorney and protect yourself with whatever laws cover you. Interestingly enough, in the US we don't have laws about bullying, harrassment is a different story. I encourage you to take it personally enough to get an attorney. I am assuming you have talked to your human resources dept. and filed a complaint, or several as is indicated and requested a job change so you won't have to interact with this awful human being.

Thank you all very much. Unfortunately she puts the fear in everyone and talks down, yells and belittles everyone. I know it must sound difficult to understand how people stay and deal with it... I have worked with it for over a year and don't understand myself in some ways. She does control the entire company and because it is a "small business"...and the one person who is suppose to help us (the person who has been on maternity leave ...HR) simply tells anyone who complains, this is how she is, this is how she's always been and will never change. She has admitted to me that the President is wrong and hateful...but does not want to lose her job. I went to work today and it was horrible. I have done so much for that company and worked so hard. I have picked up so much HR experience and not sure now if this was all worth the delay in getting out. The fibro has kicked in so terribly and between the pain and forgetting...it's only making things more difficult. My son who always supportive and understanding....apparently had something on his mind tonight when I called him. I was so down and sad and only really needed someone with a cheery voice, instead he snapped at me about getting my resume out there, etc...(Which I have)....I was so hurt and I don't think I could cry another tear. I'm sure something must have been bothering him, but I didn't know it and was just feeling a bit lonely. Thanks everyone for caring...it helps more than you could know.

By the way...I am not quiting...they will have to fire me and I have collected emails and evidence of how I have been treated. I will take this further...either after I find a job or when I have been fired...but I will not give up and allow her to continue to do this. There are some things I found out today that will help me...that she has done dishonestly.... I am building my bridge...it's just been a long bridge to cross....

Annie honey, you know how you handle people who are ugly on the inside?

You be as sticky mushy over the top corny sweet to them as you can. I know it's tough, but your spirit is brighter and stronger than your screaming meamie boss. When some one is shouting, the first thing you can ask them, is "what are you afraid of?". People who show anger and come at you shouting and yelling are, usually, deep down, afraid, of something.

I had a boss like yours, only she was a he, and he was so cruel, I know what you mean, but only at the time, I didn't know how karma works so I quit when I couldn't take it any more. He was very cruel. We couldn't keep any personal items like pictures on our desks, we couldn't leave the office for lunch, he ordered it in for us, only of course after we fixed his for him and brought it to his desk. He favored the other "young" girl in the office and she kept getting raises while I did not. I called in sick one day and he told me over the phone that I was probably hung over from coming in late and drunk the night before. Ain't he a sweetie? So, I quit. Stuck his keys to the office under the door and that was that. I did find out later though that the pretty "young" girl and her sister-in-law (who was also working there) were stealing money from him. It was a used car business and part of our job was to receive money for car and repair payments, and log them into the computer. Well apparetnly these girls were stashing a little to the side for themselves while receiving the payments! LOL There was my karma! Oh, one other thing he did to me. He hired this new girl, said we needed extra help. Had me train her, and then he called me into his office to tell me that he was letting me go and the girl that I had been training was my replacement! YIKES! I should have let him fire me, I could have gotten unemployment. But quitting that job lead me to my wonderful job as a waitress at CrackerBarrel for nine years where I still to this day have friends who are like family to me. I still go in the store, back in the kitchen and visit everyone I used to work with. I'm lucky.

But really, I know it is so hard to work for someone who is awful. You sound like you like your job, but just can't stand your boss. It is so stressful to be unhappy at work. Try try try to cover her with kindness. I used to use that tactic when I waited on a guest who was grumpy or fussy. I'd kill them with kindness, and it usually put them in a good mood, or it drove them nuts they couldn't get to me, they stopped being mean. They just eat their food and left my station! LOL

So use karma, give out and get back. You will give her nothing to yell at you for if you embrace her yelling and be so nice to her, she can't stand it! LOL She may not stop yelling, some people just have to yell, but I'll bet you everything if she yells at you and you don't respond with anything but kindness and smiles, it'll make her wonder. And you'll be the better person for it, and I promise you, you will be able to handle her screaming tantrums a lot better when you bounce a smile back at her. I promise you! Try it and let me know how it works. Remember when she screams, just smile and don't react to how she is trying to make you feel. When you act flustered or bothered by her actions, you are doing exactly what she expects you to do, and you are giving her your power.

Take back your power, and flash her a big old smile. Hopefully she'll leave you alone and go about her business, but I'm telling you "killing them with kindness" definately works. I've seen it in action too many times not to know that it doesn't. It'll be hard, cuz you're first reaction is to either yell back, or show her that her yelling has bothered you, or her actions toward you has bothered you, but like I said, if you do, you are giving her your power. She is trying to hurt you, don't let her. If you feel hurt, let it go later, but not infront of her, because then she is robbing you of your spirit. Be nice and ask "is there anything else I can do for you"? What ever is icky sticky sweet. You can't lose.

K?

Love ya lots!
tk

P.S. Right, do NOT quit, let her fire you so you can at least get unemployment. But honestly, I wouldn't want to work for someone like that, and unless she plans on moving somewhere else, maybe you should open the newspaper and look for something else. This situation will just make you sick. Unless my plan works and she lets up on you. I'll be hoping for that result. Let's hope it works and she leaves you alone, and goes home and yells at her husband! LOL (is that being insensitive on my part?)

Hi Annie, after reading your posts about this boss from hell,i was really appalled at how discriminatory your workplace sounds.Have you per chance ever read about the americans with disabilities act? This woman is very clearly violating your rights here and luckily for you, you DO have some options. Please go to the eeoc site(www.eeoc.gov/)and read thorough some of the info there and see what you think. We can post any .gov sites so it is okay for me to post the eeoc site as it is strictly an informational site. This pshyco woman is violating many different laws according to what I have read on the eeoc site. This site is really good at explaining to anyone with a disability(your fibro?and any other disabilities you may have(sorry, I don't know your whole story)if you look under Titles I and V of the americans with disabilities act and the civil rights act of 1991 you will see what I am talking about.Under the civil rights act, part one states that it "prohibits intentional discrimination and unlawful harrassment in the workplace".I would look in your phone book under govt offices to find the local eeoc in your state and start asking some questions here, really. This woman is making your workplace an absolute hell for you and no one deserves to be treated this way.You DO HAVE RIGHTS and need to excercise them.

I am just curious and i have to ask, have you seen the posting of your rights through the laws of the eeoc anywhere in your workplace?it is usually a poster type thing that EVERY employer is mandated to post ,by federal law.It also needs to be placed in an area that is accessable to each and every employee. If you cannot find this hanging anywhere or it is in a place that no one can see it(such as a locked room or a place that is not accessed by every employee)this is also a violation of the eeoc act and should be reported to them. You really need to put this woman in her place.she really sounds like a big tyrannical pain in the butt.i hope this helps. You deserve much better treatment than you are getting there.good luck, marcia

Dearest Annie: not only is the treatment being dished out by your Supervisoir unethical, it is ILLEGAL. And did you say she hit you in the face? That's criminal, it's called Assault and Battery. If you don't want to call the Police, at least report her to the Company's HR Department. As "management", she can make your company liable to you. For more information, please call Fair Employment & Housing Dept., or the Labor Standards Enforcement/Industrial Relations Dept. in your area, these are State Government listings in the front of your phone book. I would file a complaint! And to terminate your employment due to FMS is illegal discrimination. It doesn't matter who you told at work.
Good luck.
