Hi, I've been having some bizarre symptoms and the doctors don't know what's wrong with me. I've been having repeat bladder infections (some which mimick the symptoms but tests come out clean), acid reflux, diarhea, pain in my left side in the pelvic region, and major swelling. By swelling I mean that I've gone to the hospital in tears twice because my feet are so large I can't bend them at the ankle and they're purple from being so large. I take pills to get rid of the water but they don't eliminate all the fluid. I've gained 60 pounds in 2 years. At the beginning, my stomach and abdomen swelled up within like, 2 weeks and I could no longer wear any pants or fitted clothes. I have large red stretch marks on my stomach that are ever new throughout all this time so it's like I swell and de-swell and that's what's causing them. I can't wear any of my rings anymore, and the swelling is in my legs and feet and even affects my chin and on bad days I have two big chins and on good days I have one. I've been tested for such things as thyroid, diabetes, STD, AIDS, bladder irregularities, kidney disease, liver disease, allergies, rheumetoid arthitis, heart disease, and more and all are negative. I should be healthy but I look pregnant and have a dull achy pain in my lower abdomen all the time with sharp pains on the left side. I've had an ultrasound and it came back ok so I'm stumped really. I was wondering if there's any other tests that I could have to rule out any ovarian related disease?

There is a condition called 'hereditary angioedema' that sounds quite similar to the symptom set that you have. Read up a little bit about it on the net and see if it sounds familiar to you. There is a test for this condition so that's a good thing in being able to know if you do have it. Good luck.

If you're concerned about ovarian cancer you should request a CA125 blood test. It's a tumor marker that can indicate if you may have cancer. It can be elevated with other conditions (such as:endometriosis, benign ovarian cyst) so don't be too concerned if it does come back slightly high. Also, if you haven't yet, you should request a pelvic ultrasound or a transvaginal ultrasound - this can determine whether you have an ovarian cyst or tumor.
Good Luck.

I would definitely demand further tests be done. Cancer has been sorrouding my family lately with my Mom having Cervical cancer and my sister in law with Colon Cancer. My sister in law had swelling so bad they drained more than a gallon of fluid from her stomache when she had her initial surgery. She waited to go to the doc even after she was feeling bad and when she finally went, she had various tests performed and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon cancer. The cancer has spread to her liver now and she gained 25 pounds in matter of days. She went to the hospital yesterday because she could not even bend her legs from her fluid build up around the liver. Not trying to scare you but please take care and get this checked out.
