View Full Version : Ovarian cyst

I am wondering if anyone could share their opinion with me on this or perhaps someone has dealt with the same problem. I have an ovarian cyst, both Dr. and radiologlist do not think it is cancer. I have had 2 ultra sounds done and a CT scan. Also, the CA125 test which came back good. The Dr. wants to remove the cyst just to make 100% sure it is not cancer and also take both ovaries. Now, I can see removing the cyst but I would like anyone's opinion medical or otherwise on removing the ovaries. I have had my children, am 48 years old so I no longer need them. The Dr. feels this could decrease my chances of ovarian cancer in the future. Can anyone share their thoughts on this?
Thank you!

As an old wise doctor once said to my mother, "get rid of those cancer catchers (ovaries) once you're done with them"! You need to have your doctor outline the benefits of keeping your ovaries vs having to take hormone replacement therapy. I would do a lot of research about HRT before I took it, as they have made some new discoveries that are not so promising. It is a tough decision and I would research and talk it over with my gyn!!

Thank you for your reply. I am going to get a 2nd opinion and schedule time with my own OB/GYN regarding HRT. I'll keep you posted. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 3.
