Can anyone who has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer let me know their general symptoms and/or story of how it came about to get tests done. I'm worried and want to know if my symptoms mimic anybody's who has been through the this terrible problem. Also, if you read my message board below, could anyone tell me if they know ANY OTHER REASONS why I'm having the symptoms I am. THANKS

I am in menopause and have been bleeding. I am having a uterine biopsy next week to rule in or rule out cancer. What symptoms are you having?

Hi. I'm 18 and have experienced the following symptoms:
***change in bowel movement. It's now very soft, but formed and I don't have to go as often as usual.
***One time I had ovulation pain that last 2.5 days and it wasn't that bad, just a dull aching pain on my right side.
***Gas out of my mouth and bottom. (this could be due to the FiberCon I'm taking b/c it tends to cause more gas)
***Just noticed a very little, not too bad, slight, dull aching pain on my right side after I have sex.
***I've been experiencing some of these symptoms for 3-4 months now, and my periods have been normal except for my last one. It was quite lighter for me and lasted a shorter amount of time. (no chance of pregnancy)
Can you tell me whats up w/ this?

I had my Uterine Biopsy last week and asked my obgyn what the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are. He said bloating in the tummy. Have you seen a doctor yet?

There are other symptoms including...gas, back pain, weight loss, sharp pelvic pains.
You can have any or NONE of the above symptoms...ovarian cancer is known as the whispering disease as it often doesn't show symptoms until late stage disease is in place.
I had: lots of gas - especially at night, back pain - couldn't stand up long enough to wash the dishes, real sharp pelvic pain a couple of times a month, dizzy spells with nausea, pressure in the pelvic area.
These are also symptoms of other common diseases...ovarian cancer is not common.
I had a slow growing ovarian cancer called a borderline cancer. It is usually caught is early stage and usually does not require chemo just surgery.
I was lucky. If you think you're at risk see your dr. Ask for a pelvic ultrasound (CT scans aren't as good at pinpointing problems) if anything shows up...don't panic...cysts are real common and often produce the same symptoms.

how old were you? And how long did you have the symptoms before you went to the doctor?

Unfortunatly ovarian cancer usually doesn't have any symptoms util it has spread, which is why it is such a deadly disease. Some common symptoms when they do appear are irregular/excessive periods or postmenopausal bleeding, vague abdominal discomfort and swelling, digestive disturbances such as nausea/vomiting, and ascites (excess fluid in the abdominal cavity). If you feel there is something wrong, go with your heart. Good luck, and God bless.

I just read your post and I was wondering if you have ever had kidney stones before? If there is a stone in your kidney it may be large enough to just be "resting" there and the pain you feel might be when it tries to move. I would check into that possiblity also. especially if you have a family history of stones.
