Tuna is one of the lower mercury fish if canned; .17 parts per million while fish like salmon have non-detectable amounts so eat more of that...the Omega's are worth it! To me, salmon and tuna are fine but I don't eat the ones' on the large content list below. Actually, fresh and frozen tuna have higher amounts than the canned tuna. I personally rather have the salmon, however, it comes fresh and also canned.

The first number is PPM(parts per million) and the second is Omega Content.

Here are the top mercury containing fish to avoid or eat very sparingly:

PPM Omega

Shark 0.96 0.90
Swordfish 1.00 0.70
Tilefish (golden bass or golden snapper) 1.45 0.80
King mackerel 0.73 0.34

Here's the other fish lists:

PPM Omegas

Canned tuna 0.17 0.26-0.73
Shrimp ND 0.27
Pollack 0.20 0.46
Salmon ND 0.68-1.83
Cod 0.19 0.13-0.24
Catfish 0.07 0.15-0.20
Clams ND 0.24
Flounder or sole 0.04 0.43
Crabs 0.09-0.18 0. 34-0.40
Scallops 0.05 0.17
Fresh or frozen tuna 0.32 0.24-1.28
Red snapper 0.60 0.27
Orange roughy 0.58 0.002
Lobster 0.31 0.07-0.41
Grouper 0.27-0.43 0.21
Halibut 0.23 0.40-1.00
Oysters ND 0.37-1.17
Mahi mahi 0.19 0.12
Herring 0.15 1.71-1.81

I eat a lot of cold water fish. Most all fish in the US has some Mercury poisoning. Even farmed fish. The thing to remember is to eat Wild Alaskan fish. (Levels of methylmercury in studies in all samples of Alaskan salmon, wild and farmed, are extremely low, well below FDA and WHO action levels). Alaska fish has been stated to be free of mercury. I had a hair sample done for mercury and it came out clear. I mostly eat Wild Alaskan Salmon. Alaskan Sockeye salmon has the highest level Omega 3 oils of any fish. It is rather expensive since I have to order it online, but in my opinion it's worth it.

I came across an intersting article that discussed ways to remove inorganic heavy metals, like mecury, lead and etc. from the body.

Albacore tuna comes canned, and it is high in mercury. Make sure you're eating the chunk light tuna and not the albacore.

In the May,2 "First "magazine,A woman ate tuna sandwiches all of the time. Her hair fell out her skin was dull, there was all kind of bad stuff wrong with her. After researching on her own she insisted, against her doctors advice on a mercury test. Her level was 650% higher than the recominded level.

Well mercury poisoning is getting dangerous day by day--- not only fish in every possible way we are vulnerable to this poison and if we dont try to stop this now, its a dark heavy hell for our future generation.

The moral of the story is don't overdo anything!!

Fish is only recommended 3 times a week. Three normal size servings of fish a week will not cause harm, especially with the fish on the low mercury list. Avoid the ones with the large levels of course. Salmon shows up on the charts as ND, non-detectable so it is very safe.

A good extra source as far as supplements go of Omegas is Flax Oil or flaxseeds, or eating nuts and some special eggs they have out now that have more Omegas because of what they feed the chickens.
