I went food shopping last night at whole foods and I like to stock up on things and bought 2 of my yummy organic 2% cottage cheese by Horizon and looked near the lid and It says, "Best if Used by Feb 3." :( Does that mean that It will be expired by then, I don't think but how long do I have? :confused: That means I only have 3 days to eat 2 of them and I probably wont but unfortunately I didn't read the date until today and usually I buy it and it has a date on it for about 2 weeks later. I don't see an expiration date? :confused:
Veggie girl, what's the name of that bread you mentioned in another post that is wheat free. Hopefully it isn't frozen. I didn't buy any bread last night cause I don't like frozen bread and I didn't feel like going to giant eagle too. I think I'm going to bo with rye bread or try what Veg girl mentioned.

I never go by the expiration date, just by smell!
In my experience, yogurt and cottage cheese have ALWAYS lasted longer than the expiration date by a few days. Just give it the old smell test.

yeah if it smells of vinegar don't eat it Jess.. lol oh and, always take the ones in the back..the fresh ones are always in the back..the old ones are in the front.. :)

Okay, thanks! :cool: I always thought that it meant "SELL BY" that date. And there is a certain amount of days after that (I forget how many) is considered safe.

I think its 4 or 5 days..but, always use your nose..lol ;)

I THINK that if it says "best by" it is still safe for a few days, but if it says "use before" it means it will spoil.. not sure though.

With cottage cheese the smell/mold test is the best rule of thing. Pasteurized the stuff keeps for ages, unpasteurized depends more on your nose to determine if it's good.
