Recently I had a 3 month follow up pap smear and a colposcopy. I received the following diagnosis and I am not really sure what all of it means. I want to know if someone can help me understand what it means. My doctor want to do a cone on me and I am trying to inform myself before making a descision. The diagnosis was as follows:
High Grade Squamous Intraepthelial lesion (severe dysplasia, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia-CIN III/CIS) with grandular extension.
High Grade Squamous Intraepthelial lesion (severe dysplasia, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia-CIN III/CIS) with grandular extension.

Have you checked the internet under severe dysplasia? I was diagnosed w/ the same thing, and had a LEEP procedure done about 10 days ago. I can't explain it all to you in a way that it will make sense! But google severe dysplasia or just dysplasia. Also check out the LEEP topic on this site. I hope that helps some!

Thanks Finzleft for replying to me. I did get on the internet and found out that there was a difference between a Leep procedure and a cone biopsy. The cone biopsy seems to be more invasive than the Leep procedure. I am not really sure why my doctor wants to do a cone instead of the Leep. It worries me in regards to pregnancy and the taking out a piece of my cervix. I did find research that the chances of not being able to get pregnant of small. I guess I am going to talk to my doctor in regards to the two different procedures and why he thinks a cone will be better than the Leep procedure. I just want to know if the CIN III/CIS is pre cancerous or is it the beginning of cancer. Thanks for your response.

the cone procedure takes a bigger portion of your cervix than the leep would. im thinking that its cause the amount of abnormal cells on your cervix has spread out more or that its deeper into your cervix and is in parts of your cervix that the leep cannot reach, so the cone is needed
