Hello,
I ama 29 yr old female, on the pill (soon to be on nuvaring) and just had an abnormal pap. They are going to do a culposcopy/biopsy and see what's happening down there. From what I read, this condition is pretty treatable and probably won't prgress to cancer if watched? is this being naive?
My family has no history of cancer (we've been lucky) and I have been with the same guy for 2 years, (definitely no cheating going on). I have no symptoms of infection. The only thing is that I had chicken pox a couple months ago ( I had a couple down there). COuld this affect the pap or is that rediculous?
just a little worried,
claire

Hi there...
I just posted a message with similar questions.
I am 27, married (with the same guy for 2 years too).
I had a couple abnormal pap smears in the last year.
A few weeks ago I had another abnormal pap. Well, the doctor did a biopsy (really no big deal... you just feel some bad cramps for a few minutes).
The biopsy showed moderate dysplasia.
The doctor also tested me for HPV and it came back positive, and I am at high risk (there is low risk and high risk).
So now I am having a LEEP procedure at the end of the month. During the procedure, I will have a part of my cervix removed, where I have pre-cancerous cells there.
They will examine that part of the cervix that was removed to see if enough was removed.
They will put me to sleep, which is good. That should be it for the treatment.
Then, I will have to do check-up pap smears more often, but that is no big deal.
I hope this answers some of your questions. Good luck with everything.

Godd morning everyone . I am brand new to this site , but I am so glad I found it ! My name is Robin and I love in Florida (south). Anyway my nightmare began on 3-31-03 I also had an abnormal pap smear . I freaked concidering I had a pap from another obg 4 months earler that came back perfect . Well anyway when she gave me the results she stated that I was hpv poitive (the high risk type ) To say the least I was mortified!! I had no clue this ever exsisted . I never heard anything about hpv none the less never had anything on my body or in my body to indicate I was carrying this virus . The results said I had CIN 1 with mild dysplasia . So a week later I had the colposcopy/biopsy . The biopsy cam back ok ( she took samples up further into my cervix ) So that was good news , she said the surface of my cervix didnt look really bad or really anything to biopsy . So then I had the choice to wait 3 months come back and re pap test to see if this would clear up on its own . Well,I wasnt taking any chances and I chose her second option which was to have my cervix frozen to kill the abnormal cells and then re pap in 4 months . So I had the cervix frozen about 3 weeks later . It didnt hurt and I didnt really have a large watery discharge like she said I would .Im a little concerned about that cause if Im not having any discharge then Im wondering did she freeze it right !! lol . My question to anyone who could offer any insight is has anyone just had to have the freezing of the cervix and that was it ? Did it clear up the problem and didnt have to do the LEEP or cone ? Im hoping this is going to be it and I wont have to go to the next step . My obg said considering this is mild dysplasia and CIN1 that we caught this very early . Also the fact that the pap I had 4 months earlier was completely normal . Thanking you in advance for your inputs .
Robin :-)
Robin :-)
