When my daughter went for a pap smear, the doctor found a lump in her breast. She is only 38 years old. Does anyone know if a lump that is hard, and won't move around, can be benign? Her mammogram is scheduled for Monday and I'm scared to death.

My mom just went for her exam last month and they also found 2 lumps in her breast, she is 46, and they sent her for a ultrasound/mammogram and now need to do a biopsy because it is hard and not fluid filled but the doc still says its not uncommon for woman in their 30's and 40's to get FIBROADENOMA'S they are hard benign lumps that can be removed or left alone at the docs discretion, i am still worried about my mom but i have done alot of research on these fibroadenomas and they are very common in woman in that age group so i hope this helps you to know that not all lumps that are hard are cancerous...

Thanks so much for your reply. This is so nerve wrecking.
My daughter went for her mammogram today, and they said it was inconclusive, so she has to go for an ultrasound now. The doctor said she thinks it is Fibrocystic disease, but her breasts are dense and she wants to rule out any possible malignancy. She said the ultra sounds are pretty much standard treatment for this age group because of the density of their breasts. I will be a nervous wreck until this is all over. I pray almost constantly that it's not cancer.

Girlwondering, thanks so much for caring, and the prayers. The 19th seems so far off, and that will only be the ultra sound. I guess it will tell if she needs a biopsy. I'll write back to let you know the results.
Shelby1234, how did your mom's biopsy turn out? I am praying for her too.
It always seems to me like they should be making more advances against cancer than they do.
