My question is this...Is it normal for some women to have lumpy breasts? Both of my breasts feel lumpy to me. But the lumps have never grown. If it's cancerous don't they continue to get bigger if their not removed? I'm 31 by the way. I've never had a mammogram. Should I get one? What's it like and is it painful? Thanks.

Hello Misty,
I just joined these boards today, was doing an engine search for lumps in the breats. My doctor told me last year, I had fibrocystic breast, and I should stop drinkin so much caffine. I never felt the lumps myself, until recently, I have lost 52 pounds, and my breast are smaller, so I can feel them now. It scared me when I felt them. I have found several sites that say you should have a mammogram when your 40, but I am 33, wondering if the mammogram will tell anything, I worry about every thing, to much I guess. I also read, that all women have lumpy breast at some point in their life, and cancer doesn't form with alot of lumps. I am still worried, so I feel your fear. If anyone else has any more information, or been thru this, please let me know.

P. S. I have been told by family and friends, that it all depends on who does the mammogram as to how bad it hurts.
