I do not want to scare anyone that has to have the procedure done in the future, bt I was jsut worried becasue I thought after the local anestisia (was not knocked out) you weren't supposed to feel anything. I felt everything. Was something wrong, or did a lot of you feel something even after the local?

Postitive,
If you read some of the threads here with LEEP in the title, you will find that a number of the women did feel pain.... and other stuff. One woman had a more positive (sorry) experience, and she had the procedure done as an out-patient procedure in the hospital so she could have better pain control. I've never had the LEEP and likely never will now, but I shudder when it is mentioned. I hope you feel better soon, and that the pain is soon behind you.

Hi,
I saw your message about the leep procedure and have seen a lot of posts on here about it. I had mine done about 2 weeks ago in the dr.'s office and just took some anti inflammatory medicine prior to the procedure and didn't have any trouble at all. The only slight pain I felt was the numbing shot being administrered. I was fully awake the entire time and it went very smoothly. I was fine the rest of the evening, as well. I am sorry to hear about anyone's bad experience with this. I just want to let people know that it isn't always traumatic and can be a smooth procedure. Hope this helps!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/gabby.gif

Hi,
I myself had a leep done two weeks ago. I took some extra strength tylenol before I went in, and I had no trouble having my leep done. My doctor froze my cervix with a shot, and I never felt a thing. I also felt fine after the procedure, and even the next day. I have heard stories of people having bad experiences, but I can tell you not all are bad. There was no pain with mine, and I felt fine after it was all done. Hope everything goes well for you and good luck.

i was given an iv w/ 2 differant seditives before they gave me my local. my dr. said it was best that way because sometimes a local could wear off during the procedure. i'm glad i went the route i did, i felt nothing, nor remember anything.

I had the LEEP procedure done 10 days ago. I had it done as an out-patient, general anesthesia. No bleeding at all, no discharge at all. I had some cramping afterwards for about 2 days, but the pain killers did their job. My question is this: on schedule, i got my period 8 days after the LEEP. I am on the pill, so my prds are very very light. Except this time. This time it is very very heavy. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this?

My period was also VERY heavy after the LEEP and that is unusual for me. The next one was back to normal though.

Wow.. I SO wish I would've found these boards BEFORE I had my LEEP done back in December. I was very scared, and I had a few complications afterwards. I was sedated throughout the surgery, and I don't remember anything, except waking up in pretty bad pain, which my doctor seemed to act like was abnormal. So he gave me some pain meds, and I was discharged. I also had very heavy bleeding the first 2 periods after my LEEP. I also had VERY VERY VERY bad cramping... But that has all calmed down now thank God...except for when I was having the horrible cramps, I was stuck in bed, missed work, and lost my job over it...Now I'm fighting for unemployment because what my boss told me was that I was being laid off, but she lied to unemployment and told them I was fired...So that's pretty stressful...Anyways, I had my 3 month checkup to have my Pap done, and I was so very happy to find out that everything was back to normal. After 2 years, I'm finally healthy down there again thanks to my wonderful ob/gyn. I just wanted to wish you all Good Luck for your LEEPs and other things. And hopefully things will all turn out brightly for you! Unfortunately this was something I got because of a man who raped me.. I've been through a lot in my life, but I'm glad I can put it behind me now...

When I had the leep done about two years ago I had a local and the worst part was him using the needle to give me the local. I only had a slight warm sensation when the leep was performed. Then it hurt for about 4 hours after I just took a few ibuprofen and it made it tolerable. I had a little spotting after for a few days and then a week later got my period and once my period was gone I kept bleeding for a couple weeks. I ended up having to go in so they could put some gunk on my cervix to stop the bleeding. My period was very heavy which it always is and that caused and I don't mean to be gross but it made the scab fall off of my cervix and so I started bleeding from it. All in all was not an extremely painful process just a pain. It's been two years now and every pap has come back normal and I have them every 4 months until next time then I go every 6 months.

I also wanted to add I had the leep procedure because of having moderate dysplasia. HPV. It had not gone up the cervical canal. If it had been mild dysplasia then they wouldn't have done surgery but he said the moderate is more common to progress.

I just wanted to say that I had my leep yesterday and I felt EVERYTHING, but then again, I have a low pain tolerance. I felt each injection (I got two), I felt the LEEP itself, and then the cauterizing, that was the most painful part. But at least it was over quick.
I thought hte biopsies were easier, even though my gyno said most women thought the LEEP was easier.

I have the oppisit affect.
I hade a LEEP done On Monday and I have very little spotting, and not one cramp. In fact I have stopped even the little spotting that I had a day or two after the procedure. The doctor said I would have some bleeding and then something that looked like coffee grinds com out but none of that has happened. I have worn a thin pad everyday but the pad is absolutley clean of any blood or discharge! Very strange!
Is this normal? Has anyone ever heard of a person not have bleeding and or cramps? Could the fact that I am past menopause be the reason?
Good luck!

Well, today is 1 week since my LEEP , and the doctor did not call me.
I am now worried that she did not call because it may be bad news and she knows I have surgery on Tuesday so not to worry me at this time.
I guess I may be stressing out too much and my imagination is running away from me, but for the Colop both times she called in exactly one week.
Well maybe they did not get the results back yet, or maybe something else happened, but If the pathologist reports something bad would they not alert the doctor ASAP?
I have no clue how it works for the most part.
Thanks for any answers :)

hi rouxwoman
i had my leep today and so far very little bleeding and no cramps...i think that you get more discharge once the scab on the cervix is ready to fall off, at least my doctor said i would get more bleeding later on

I had a LEEP done last August for moderate dysplasia, as an out-patient procedure in the doctor's office. They just used local anesthesia, and I took generic Xanax to soothe my nerves. I felt very little pain - it was really no worse than a Colposcopy for me, in fact it was less painful than the cone biopsy.
Recovery was swift - I really didn't feel sore or anything afterwards, and don't remember having any discharge or bleeding.
