View Full Version : Birth control pills & cervical dysplasia

I keep running across references to the birth control pill being a factor in developing CIN from HPV. I have been on the pill for 2 1/2 years, which isn't particularly long, but I believe it's enough time to do some damage. I'm not a big fan of the pill, and my endocrinologist believes that it's sent me into a state similar to menopause. It seems as if there's a big question, though, about whether it's the pill itself causing an increase vulnerability to HPV/CIN or if it's just because women on the pill tend to have more frequent unprotected sex, therefore contributing to the higher risk for contracting HPV and developing CIN.

Personally, I think my being on the pill has lowered my immune system significantly, which I believe can account for why I've developed LGSIL so suddenly, after years of normal paps and a monagomous relationship. Does anyone else here have similar suspicions?

Also, can anyone comment on what suppliments are good to take for LGSIL/CIN? I'm increasing my folic acid and B6, only because I already know that the pill has stripped my body of those two things in particular (oddly enough, two very important things that help keep the immune system functioning). I heard that selenium is good, as well. Anything else?

I did a lot of research after I was diagnosed with HPV. I, too, have had only two monogomous relationships..so I thought I would be in the clear. I have been on the pill for almost 3 years now. I did have a Leep procedure and have spoken to many doctors concerning whether birth control affects your chances for hpv...they all say no. I am not a doctor but putting two and two together I have concluded that since some women's bodies are actually able to supress the hpv virus and they never show any symptoms where as some of us aren't..and I have only slept with 2 men...one a virgin the other only two others before me...that birth control changes the environment of your cervix which can affect the way your body fights off hpv. taking a flolic acid supp. will help with this...but an overall womens multi vitamin with folic acid in it will help keep your body balanced and immune system healthy....good luck

I had moderate dysplasia about two years ago and had the leep procedure done. I have been fine since then all normal paps that I go in for every 4 months. I just started taking the pill about 1 1/2 months ago and did read somewhere that it can cause cervical problems. So I am somewhat concerned if it might come back now that I am on the pill. I will just keep going to the doctor and hopefully it doesn't.
