Hi, I'm new to the forum. How old is your child and what do you think was the major success. My son has been in inhome therapy since august. He has marked improvements but still has problems with language. I think the removal of dairy has been the main factor in my sons improvement. I would love to hear what has worked for you. Thanks Jeffreys mom

My son will be 5 in March. The thing I owe the most sucess to is the diet. You really should remove Gluten if you son responded to Dairy removal.
My son still has some pragmatic speech problems, but the in home therapy I chose doesn't address the problem and he is too well off in speech to get early intervention for it. For that he only quilified for social and gross (due to not walking up steps properly) other than that, no gross motor problems. He just will NEVER be start quarterback...lol
But the diet, DAN! dr with his anti yeast treatment. Baby steps led to this HUGE thing.
I'm so proud of him. I don't think the ppl around me realize what a HUGE thing this is. He MAY go threw life without any more intervention :). But we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
For now my son is even more than perfect, he is better! :):):) (he always was perfect to me:) )

I'm curious what aspects were improved with the diet. My son doesn't really have any behavioral issues. He's never had ear infections or rashes and doesn't have stomach problems. He is improving greatly with a 1/2 day preschool program and pull out OT, speech and PT. I'm just wondering what I would see if we did commit to the diet.

Before I started my son on the diet. He would flap, melt down, throw fits ect. He was whiny, clingy and had no understanding of punishment. He also spoke mono tone but only for like the last 2 mos, his speech turned into a walking movie or TV show. He has a HUGE vocabulary, understood what you said, but just didn't converse with you.
I stated him off Milk and the behavors went away. NO more flapping, tippie toe walking. He stopped having as many meltdowns, just got better to be around. It really helped :)
When we started off the gluten (about a month after dairy) the change was more gradual, but still there. His mind cleared. He came back into our would more. Started talking about stuff I didn't even realize that he regressed in. Shapes mainly, he stared tlaking about the stop sign being an Octagon, I had forgot he knew that. From then on, things have just gotten better
We started he anti yeast treatment about 2-3 mos later. The change was sudtle, but defenate. It was something "I" could see. Little things, less squilling, screaching is gone, no more laughing when his sister gets hurt. He doesn't yell when you wash and rinse his hair. Like I said, sudtle, but HUGE at the same time.
Our next step is Chealation, he is elevated in a few metals, and we will start the detox soon.
THE DIET IS THE BACK BONE TO HIS SUCESS! I can not tell you how proud of him I am. I hope you all get to feel what I do at this time in our lives. It is like a weight has been lifted. I was so carefree after the therapist left, we are starting to become a "normal" family again.
My son will always be quorky, but he is who he is. He is truly a gift of God. In fact that is what his name means (Shane) he will keep life intresting with all the different things that come out of that boys mouth lol
