I found this site a few weeks ago when I was searching for info about LEEP procedures and it made me feel a lot better, so I wanted to share my experience. I had mild dysplasia last summer so they left it alone. This March it came back as Moderate Dysplasia, or CIN II, so I had the colposcopy and ECS (endocervical scraping). The result of that was I had to have a LEEP procedure. I had it yesterday and let me tell you, it was like 10 times better than I was worrying about! I went in, they explained the whole thing to me, numbed my cervix with 4 shots of lydocaine (which has ephedrine in it, which made my heart race a little), which I did not even feel, and then they did another colposcopy and ECS, as well as the LEEP. I did not feel a thing, it did not hurt at all. I got home, had some minimal discharge and 24 hours later, just some discharge of the medicine they put in there, hardly anything, and no bleeding and no pain. I was so scared I wanted to let others know that it is not as bad as you anticipate. I would be glad to answer any questions. I just wanted to reassure everyone that it is a quick easy procedure and not to worry.

Thank you very much for letting everyone know about your procedure, it sure is good to hear everything went well for you. Mine is scheduled for next Friday so I'm starting to get a little worked up. Did you feel OK the next day?

Yes, I felt totally fine the next day, and today too, 2 days later. It is weird because I kept expecting it to start hurting. But I have not had any bleeding or any pain or cramping. This might not be how it goes for everyone, but I had a lot taken out, and I feel totally fine. My doctor said I should have no trouble getting pregnant, is there anyone out there who is trying? How long did you wait after the LEEP.

Hello!
I had my LEEP on Monday and it wasn't NEARLY as bad as I thought it was going to be either! I am such a wimp, so they actually put me out for the procedure (they gave me IV sedation)...it was great! lol
I thought the heeling would be horrible, too...but now i have my period (I was due the next day, and I started 2 days after...Wed) so it is hard to tell how long the bleeding is going to be...I thought my period was going to be really heavy, but it isn't. It might even be a lighter than normal. Hard to tell because I usually wear tampons and I can't right now.
I did have some cramping, but again, that might be because of my period. I am also having this weird "pain" (it's not bad) but I swear it feels like my cervix is sore. Has anyone experienced this? I am going for my check up Friday so I'll ask my Dr. then.
As for trying to have children, that was my main concern, too! (Which is why my Dr did it before our wedding...6 weeks to go!!!) My Dr said she would recommend 2-3 months after a LEEP to begin trying to make sure your cervix is totally heeled and strong.
Well, I hope this message wasn't too long or confusing!!!
But, as for the LEEP, it really wasn't bad at all :)

LEEP really is no big deal...I had to two of them and was awake and un-sedated for both...the first one only took less than 10 minutes...the second, about 45...I think this one took much longer because the doctor was showing a med student how to do it...no big deal....no pain....seriously the worst part of the whole ordeal is the culposcopy, and the no sex, tampons afterward...

I just got the call that I have moderate/severe dysplacia and I'm really worried. I've been on the net all day looking it up. I just want to thank everyone for the info. It's nice to hear it first hand on what to expect. Do you know if this is always related to STD's or are there other causes? I'm really scared and it's probably not as bad as I expect but the waiting is the worst part. Now hearing all the experience it gives me a little piece of mind.

I had the moderate dysplasia too, in my case it is caused by the HPV virus/warts, which I have never had a symptom of and never had show up anytime before this. But my doctor said that not only HPV causes it, it can also be caused by having a yeast infection, or recently using tampons or having intercours, all right before your pap, so it shows up as the dysplasia. That is why they usually wait to see if it clears up before going ahead with the colposcopy or the LEEP, because it could just be inflammation. In my case it did not clear up (because of the HPV STD) and that is why I had the LEEP. Dysplasia basically means irregular cells so they show up on paps because they are different from your regular cells. The word sounded so scary but looking it up really helped. This site has helped a lot too. Plus there is a book called Womens Health Womens Wisdom by Dr. Northrup, that has all sorts of useful info on women's stuff, if you want a more natural approach to healing. It is really scary waiting and worrying, that really is the worst part. Now I am just waiting for my results to confirm that they got all the dysplasia cells out. I guess the only thing that helps with the worrying is knowing they have so many ways to treat this now and by having regular paps you can easily monitor it and catch changes early. Hope that helps!
