I know it stands for obsessive compulsive disorder but exactly what does that mean? From what I have heard and read, people who have obseesive compulsive behaviors show it toward objects or things. Can it be people too?

I think it can be anything. I have a mild case of it. For me I count things like stairs every time I go up or down them I have to count them amoung a few other things I count. There is an ocd board on this forum too you might want to check it out as well.

HI Grace! U betcha...OCD has been associated with everything from obsessing over cleanliness to objects. But people with OCD can also obsess over other people. I have seen people with OCD who obsess over certain people whom they like, other women or men who they might be infatuated with or want to be like, idols, friends, neighbors anyone whom they take a great interest in. I dont know for sure, but I tend to believe Asperger people or autistic people tend to obsess over other people more. MY husbands mom has OCD and she is a perfectionists(no autism or aspergers) and she is obsessed with cleanliness. My son is obsessed with our neighbors son. I will tell him I love him at night...and he will tell me.. I love you Brandon. lol Everything he gets, he asks if Brandon has one. (they hardly talk anymore since Brandn lives with his mom) Last year it was Ray, he moved away and then came back this year..and he lost his interest in RAy. My son has friends in his class whom he plays with, but cant shake that Brandon for some reason. He talks about Brandon all the time all the time as if he were here and he hasnt been here since Halloween. I try to tell him Brandon isnt here but he doesnt care, he keeps talking as if Brandon is here. I dont really know how to get him to stop other than hopefully Brandon wont be here for along time and maybe he will lose his interest in him like he did Ray.

The reason I asked if you can have OCD and obsess over people is Today I had an episode that might be considered obsessive to some people. To be honest I kinda scared myself. Here's what happened:

I was surfing the net today trying to find professionals who specialize in a area that deals with a physical disability I've had since birth. Well I found a profile of this Dr that really interested me on a web site of a hospital in my state. However the website had not been updated in a few years and since then the Dr left the hospital.
Ok I'm assuming most people would give up the search for that certain dr. Not me. I google him and find the same Dr half way across the country. After it was over with. I thought to myself I can't believe I just tracked that guy. It's not like I could see him as a patient because he's in pediatrics. I'm fine now that I found him.My curiousity is gone.

Does that sound obsessive or am I just jumping to conclusions?

LOL!! I thing everybody has a slight case of OCD at times :p , especially when it comes to your kids. I was diagnosed with it back in 2000, and have been on medication ever since, meds work great for me, but they are not for everyone.

Hi Ladies. This was major with my little gal.It is so much better now it was a nightmare for her bless her heart. She was extremely intense rigid and INFLEXIBLE in Thinking,Reasoning and Behaviors. It was very for her to Change task or transition to anything new.She wouldnt allow any type of deviation from HER plans she had set in her mind. She went thru the same things as in the movie rain man. She has come along way PTL.A good book to read is called Help for the Hopeless Child it covers everything you need to know about DXs medication treatments doctors etc i recommend it.Its excellent. It was written to help children who are adopted from over seas who come from institutions but i find it informative to anyone who needs lots of questions answered.I saw the doctor who wrote it on i believe Dateline one night.
