I use enbrel, I am also very anemic. I went in for gallbladder surgery on Monday, Jan 31, 2005 and was so anemic 8.8 the Dr. wouldn't operate until I had a transfusion. They also decided to do an endoscopy and a colonoscopy to make sure there was no obvious signs of bleeding. There weren't I had one polup that took me 62 years to grow. The only thing they could come up with was that the enbrel was making me anemic. My question, has anyone else had this problem?

Are you using the enbrel for RA? Anemia is part of rheumatoid arthritis. I would venture a guess that most people with RA are anemic. I know I am. I have not heard that enbrel would actually cause anemia. I use enbrel but I was always anemic (my whole life it seems like).

My blood work has actually been better since being on Enbrel. I had major problems with my blood counts dropping on both Methotrexate and Arava but since I've dropped those and only take the Enbrel the counts are coming up. I know that rheumatoid arthritis itself can make you anemic but it shouldn't be that severe. Maybe someone else has some ideas.
