Hello, I am new here and so glad to find a forum on this topic. I have read several topics on the LEEP procedure and have question of those who have had it. How long did the bleeding last? My doc gave a me post-op information that said it could last up to 4 weeks. But I am a little confused, like many of you I have looked everything I could via the net on this procedure and have read that the bleeding shouldn't last more than 1 week some said no more than 2 weeks. I am going on 3 weeks and still bleeding. No pain, it's just a little annoying -- like having a period for 2 1/2 weeks -- it just sucks!! Although it is not quite as heavy as a period just annoying with the pads and all. I am glad the procedure is over and I have my results -- moderate dysplasia and it all was removed.
Also, how long did others have to wait before intercours? I also found conflicting information that -- 2 weeks to 1 month.

Thanks!

Hello, I just had my LEEP last week, I have not bled at all yet. I think the reason there is so much conflicting info, is because every one is different, I realize this just from hearing everyone's stories. I am not sure how much help your doctor is (I know some aren't much help at all), but because every one is different, I think the most accurate info you can get is from your doctor, since he will be the one examining you. I am thinking that it is normal to not bleed at all, and it is normal to bleed for weeks, it all depends on your body. So since I am not a doctor or anything, all I can tell you really is try not to worry too much, and if you have a feeling that something is wrong, express it to your doctor, and have him check it out http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif and take care http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

About 10 days after my LEEP I got my period and the period blood pushed the clot that formed after the LEEP out of me too early. That caused unnecessary heavy bleeding and my doc had to apply medicine to my cervix to stop the bleeding. Maybe sometimes people's periods post LEEP affect amount of bleeding post LEEP..??

that's interesting, and it kinda sucks for me, because although I have not bled yet, I should be getting my period in a week......if that happens to me, now I will know why, thanks for the info http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I had my leep done 6 years ago. I did bleed a bit not long though and it wasn't heavy. If you're still bleeding 4 weeks later, I'd go to the dr. just to be sure ... check it out.

I call my dr. all the time, I page him in the middle of the night for every thing b/c I'm paranoid - better safe than sorry.

Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I am still bleeding 17 days later and today I had 2 sizable clots. I did call my doc's office after the 1st clot and they said it was probably just the scab, but after the 2nd one and the continued steady bleeding I am beginning to wonder. Thank goodness my follow up is Monday -- I will be grilling my doc on what is going on?
