I have posted before and many of you, especially ZUZU,were kind enough to listen to me! I had another pelvic ultrasound today,a year after the first one that showed small bilateral ovarian cysts.I was told,a year ago,it was nothing to worry about, they were normal "functional" cysts for a woman my age (42 with endometriosis). I have worried myself sick for a year about this, despite at least 5 exams by 2 different docs who say I "feel fine". I saw a new dr. today(moved out of state)He said "I felt fine",but would do vaginal sonogram to make me feel better. It showed a 2cm cyst on lt.ovary also, he says "it is nothing to worry about, see you in a year".I am still worried,if this was the same thing they saw last year and if it were malignant, they would be able to tell right? And after 14 whole months,if it were soemthing awful it would have grown right? is this normal yall?

Hey Southern,

I am 36 years old and started getting cysts on my ovaries when I was around 22. The first time I got them they were really painful and I was scared half to death. (None since then have been painful.) I wondered, like you, how they could tell it was a harmless cyst and nothing more. But somehow they can but I think that you have the right attitude that you need to ask questions and make sure you don't miss your yearly exams. I also have a 5 cm "growth" on my uterus that has been there for three years and it scared me half to death the first time they saw that on the sonogram.

I think cysts are fairly commom, and again, you have the right attitude with being a little concerned and making sure you go to your yearly exams.

Hi there- The new doctor obviously saw how anxious you are and even though he was sure you were fine, ordered a sonogram just to completely reassure you. It was to reassure YOU, not him...He knows you're okay.
Since you still have some anxiety and questions, (I'm just guessing the questions below are what are going through you mind!)why don't you call him and ask the following:

1) Last orig. ultrasound showed 2 bilateral small cysts...Are you now saying that one has disappeared and only one is still there? Or do I still have the original two and this is a third one?

2) Did you compare this ultrasound with the one from last year?

3) Please explain to me (so I will leave you alone!) exactly how you can be so sure it's benign.

Diva my dear girl...just call him.......I know he'll put you at ease, but I also know that you need extra reassurance.

Let us know what he says on the phone, okay?

PS By the way, my sister has functional cysts just like you and over a period of three years one has completely gone and the other two remain stable.

PPS Reminder: ovarian cancer does not "stand still" for over a year!!! Your doctor would have felt an abnormal ENLARGEMENT by NOW...and given your history of prior cysts and endometriosis he would definitely be extra vigilent and be looking specifically for serious problems...which obviously he didn't find!

"ZUZU THE GREAT" Thank you so much! You are the best. This dr.insisted over and over it was nothing more than a follicular cyst on the lt. ovary and swore he sees' it"all the time". I called back and talked directly with the tech. in his office who performed the procedure ans she said it looked like follicular cyst that she sees on all ovulating women and I should not worry and they did not see any reason to repeat the scan.(I have worked in medical offices for 15 years and I know dr's are so worried about people suing them, they usually follow up anything if they have a shadow of a doubt). But they do not seem to worry about it at all. he could not compare old films because last year when it was done,I was living in Ohio. We were transferred to Ga.,last month, why I am seeing a new dr. You did make me feel better by telling me that about your sister. She has had the same follicular cyst for 3 years? is that true? You are the best.sending hugs to you!!
