Hello
All.
for about 4 years now i have had bowel and stomach problems, im supposed to be taking fiber pills, but i havent yet. But the doc put me on dyclomine (sp?) i havent noticed much about it doing anything. but after i eat lunch, i always have to go to the bathroom and have a real loose stool most days and once in a great while it comes out just normal. I also have sever pains right behind my belt buckel that will almost take you to your knees, then go to the bathroom and everything comes out fine. I am sceduled or a colonascopy on feb 28 and i really can wait to find out what is wrong, but on the other hand i get scared to death just thinking about it, i also so have a lot of stress on my life that i cant hadle very well. some times i have to take aimonium a-d every couple days to get the diareah to stop. it is killing me i need some good advice, also what are the polyops that there thinking i have in my colon, what do they come from and what do they cause.
Since i am self employed farmer i really need to get this straigthed up before spring
Thanks alot
Shawn

Shawn,
Sorry about your problem!
Everyone that has IBS is usually intolerant to 1 or more foods. They have to be ID and eliminated of course-- wheat and dairy are 2 major culpits.

I think the best thing that you could do is take a water soluble fiber supplement like Metamucil -- it works for diarrhea as well as constipation. Just make sure you follow the directions about drinking enough water, IT just may work for you.

Start off slow because it will produce gas but with continued use it will go away.

A person needs 25 to 35 grams of fiber daily for their intestines to function properly--- and it needs to be divided between soluble and insoluble fiber. Are you really getting enough fiber in your diet???

God Bless---Harry

I take Librax for my diarrhea. Usually after I take one I won't have a bm for about a day but it does help with the diarrhea and abdominal pain. :nono:

Shawn,

I took dicyclomine (aka Bentyl in US and Bentylol in Canada) last summer and not only did it not help my symptoms, it also made me feel like I had a constant two-drink buzz. I stopped taking it after 2 weeks because I couldn't concentrate. I also get a terrible sharp pain right where you describe, under the belt buckle area. I agree with Harry about the fibre. I started taking one tsp of Metamucil a day almost a month ago and since then I haven't had actual diarrhea - stools are still soft occasionally but are overall better. I still have a lot of pain, but I can deal with that as long as the diarrhea stays under control.

Let us know how your colonoscopy goes.

Take care -- Georgette
