Hi everyone, I'm writing this in hope that someone out there will give me information that may be able to help my grandma. She has osteoporsis, and it has put her in a nursing home. She suffers a lot, especially when she walks. Her doctors have told her that it is never going to be better, and is basically a hopeless case...I just wanted to know what all treatments are available. Any Info would be great, thanks

There are several treatments available --oral medications that either help build bone or keep it from getting worse, eating alot of foods with calcium and calcium supplements, injectable medications that also build bone, pain medications if your in pain. There's alot of factors to consider for which treatment would be beneficial for her. I don't like to hear that the doctor is telling her nothing is available. I would request that she be seen by a specialist, not just by the general doctor at the nursing home. Most nursing homes can either bring in a specialist or send the patients to one in the community.
