My boyfriend has CF... He also had a liver transplant due to complications from the disease... I am completely dedicated to him and wish to be his lifelong partner... I stand side by side with him though all the appointments, check ups, lab visits and make countless trips to and from the hospital 300 miles from our hometown... I help him remember to do his treatments and take his numerous supply of pills... It has became part of my life as it part of him... He is the most important person in my life and I have never been happier...
Recently a problem has developed that we cannot figure out... We wish to be married and get an apartment so that we can continue our lives together legally, spiritually and physically as well. We have talked with SSI and Disability and they have informed us that if we did become legally bound that my income would count as his income as well.. He cannot work and I provide our sole source of income... Even what I make it would be very hard for us to be on our own... and still they tell us that I make too much and they would cut all his healthcare... There is no possible way that I could pay for his medication alone (which I have estimated to be over 400 dollars a day) much less cover his frequent hospital visits and lab requirements... The only obvious answer is for us to live together and not be married... But we are Christian and would very much like to know if there are any alternatives... If anyone else has found a way to take care of these vast medical bills and still be married and able to support an apartment (and all the expenses that alone entails) and at least one car insurance bill... I thank you for caring enough to take the time to read of our plight...
