Hello,
I was diagnosed with grade 1 easophagitis 3 years back. I used to have acidity problem even before that for a long time. I am taking ppis on and off since 3 years. Though I have no heart burn now, I have constant sore throat and when i speak continously for some time I have throat pain. My doctor says its because of Gerd andf advised ph manometry. Do I go for a second opinion or straight away go for the manometry test. Please advice

Why not do the pH manometry? It's not that bad. I'm going for my second time next week. It's not fun, but bearable.

I have had the sore throat with GERD.

Hi There, I have been suffering for GERD for quite a long time, but just recently it has started to really bother me. The other morning I woke up without been able to speak as my throat was totally closed, my voice was hoarse and throat was very red and irritated, I thought I was having an allergic reaction of some sort. After been to the allergist it was proven I have no allegies, it seems its all caused by GERD, in my case I have been experiencing, a sore throat, the sensation that I have a lump where my adams apple is, difficulty swallowing sometimes, chest pain, burping, and ear pain just on one side. Is there anyone out there with similar symptoms?

I Have The Same Symptoms Also.... I Feel Like My Throat Is Closed Up Often, Feel Like A Lump Is By My Adams Apple & Makes It A Bit Hard To Swallow. My Throat Is Also Sore Often & Really Feel It When I Talk Too Loud Or For Too Long. I Don't Have Medical Ins So I Just Take Prilosec Otc & That Totally Kills The Heartburn, But The Above Things Still Happen. I Hate It. Any Thing I Can Do To Help My Throat Feel Better? Anything Out There To Make My Throat Feel Not So Raw & Sore?

I would reccomend Milk of Magnesia if you are in the UK, I don't know if it is sold anywhere else. It helps neutralise the acid for a while and provides me with some relief, it helps my sore throats too when the acid is very bad, trouble is, I have to keep taking it which I am not sure is such a good idea long term... I take proton pump inhibitors too, which help some.

I find that drinking aloe vera juice and taking papaya tablets helps. Im going to try the slippery elm capsules that someone else recommended.

Jim,
Make sure to take prilosec twice a day before meals.
