Hi everyone, my first post here. I'm 55, just diagnoised with ADHD before Christmas. I've been on AdderallXR now for close to two months. It has changed my life for the better. Prior to diagnosis, my marriage of 25+ years was in the toilet. I had all the symptoms: couldn't get anything finished, had tons of projects started, little piles of papers all over the house, my dresser was covered with everything from birthday cards, to lint balls from my pants pockets, I'm sure I don't need to get into this more, from reading the back post, you are all very educated in ADHD. My point, is that all of this let to frustration from my wife. She couldn't trust me to do anything, including something as simple as watering the plants. On top of that, I was very abusive to her verbally and emotionally. If she dared mention anything to me that I had done wrong, or not done, I retalliated, tried to switch the blame to her or rationalize it away. This over time wore her out, she was ready to walk.
Now we are doing better, much better, but....it's only been two months. Neither her or I "trust" what will happen tomorrow. Has anyone else been in a similar situation with their spouse? What has happened over time? Did the medication continue to work? Can we start "believing" that we found the root cause of our turmoil?
We have looked for other adults, and are still looking for some type of support group, coaches or mentors if you will, but have not been able to find any yet. There is lots of info out there for parents of children who have ADHD, but we need adult support.
Anyone? we need some light for the end of this tunnel.
Thanks in advance for any support you can give.
