Not only is is possible, it is likely. No one person can say absolutely how they contracted hepatitis C after so long. Many people have multiple risk factors and transfusions at that time are a high risk factor.
I hope this helps,

Chronic active hepatitis is an obsolete term. Do find out from your doctor which hepatitis you have tested positive for. There is no way for me to tell from that description alone.
Hepatitis C is a virus and it doesn't become something else nor does anything else become hepatitis C. It is possible that you have tested positive for both antibody and virus (by PCR). In that case, you have hepatitis C.
Other than that, check with your doctor for clarification.
I hope this helps,

I am afraid you give me too much credit, Merry.
I know a lot, but not everything and I am not a doctor.
There is no way for me to tell how you got hepatitis, especially since you don't know what hepatitis you have. Have you been tested for autoimmune hepatitis? hepatitis B, fatty liver, etc?
Where is "over here?" And why on earth would anyone want to cover anything up, exactly? I am afraid you have lost me as to what you mean by that.
Take care.

Merry, I don't know whether a blood transfusion can trigger an autoimmune response. I thought that autoimmune hepatitis is a genetic condition, but I could be wrong about that. Autoimmune hepatitis is not a disease I know a lot about.
I also understood you to say that you do not have hepatitis C and it is unclear just what type of hepatitis you might have.

Hi Merry
I agree with what Thanbey has said. Chronic active hepatitis covers a range of things.
Chronic only means longstanding, active tells you that the condition is on going and hepatitis means an inflamed liver. Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is not fully understood by the medical profession yet but they believe that a person is genetically predisposed to it. I know that it can’t be caught from a person or a blood transfusion. If you have this condition it can be detected by a blood test but only confirmed by a liver biopsy. It can’t be cured but kept in control with steroids and most people can live normal lives. Fatigue, muscle aches and joint pain are common features with the condition. I hope you can get an accurate diagnosis soon. AIH is a rare condition but there are a few help forums on line.
