I'm supposed to go in for my yearly check up (10/17/03) and to also get my b/c persciption renewed and I was told by the nurse that my doctor probably won't renew it because I haven't had the LEEP yet. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am not sexually active and I take them to regulate by periods.
Knowledgeable responds are helpful!

I'm confused, are you putting off your leep? If you are, then that's why he wants to see you and if it takes not refilling your prescription to get you in, so be it. If you have dysplasia, you need to have it treated. If you're not putting it off then the nurse needs to explain why he won't refill your b/c because that doesn't make sense.

I'm not purposely putting it off. I was supposed to have the surgery back in Feb.2003 & I lost my job one week to the day beforehand and in turn, I lost my insurance. So, I went and got medicaid and I have a scheduled appointment next Friday, but I also want to keep up with my regular appointments and my yearly check up is one of them. The nurse told me that because of the change in hormones from taking birth control pills will cause the dysplasia to run it's course faster, which doesn't make sense to me, because I've been taking b/s pills for a year now.

Ah, now I understand. My doctor told me that if you have a wart, it would grow faster when you’re pregnant because of your hormones. In fact, skin tags and moles can get bigger too. I don’t know if that’s true for dysplasia as well. I’ve done a lot of reading on this and have never heard that before. Not to say it’s not true, but I’ve never heard of it. It seems stupid to me if you've been on them for so long. Then again, the pill does trick your body into thinking it's pregnant. Still, it seems stupid to me to stop now after all this time. Does he want you to get pregnant while you have this? Dumb! He is probably doing whatever he can to get you to come in to have the dysplasia taken care of. Even if he does know your situation he probably wants to make sure you make this a priority.

The nurse told me to use condoms. I haven't been sexually active since last November! I just take them to regulate my period and to subside some of the cramping.

Hi KimRick,

My docs have had me take more and more pills for an undiagnosed condition in spite of the fact that I just had a LEEP and still have abnormal paps. I had a colpo yesterday along wiht my other surgeries. I believe it is true that it may progress a little quicker with the pills, but there are so many benefits.

When you see the doc on the 17th, he may have a different story than the nurse. He probably does want you to get the LEEP. My mom hates her annual exams and the docs make her come in by withholding the prescriptions. Once the doc remembers your situation wiht the medicaid and knows why you are on the pills and that you are already on them now, he may be able to write a three month script so that he can have a little control over you.

Good luck,
Nik

I have no problem with going to my exams - I'm all about prevention for living longer! I just think it's crap! I was so upset by this that I started to cry! I'm SO stressed out and I've had the luxury of normal menstral cycles with minimal cramping for the last year, and I was SO pissed that she said that I couldn't have it renewed. :(
