My daughter Ezme is 9months old. Since birth she has always sounded as though she has a cold, infact imediately after birth she was handed to me and she sounded as though she still had alot of mucus and so I told the nurse to check her out. Weeks went by and she sounded the same and I kept askinf doctors and they would say its just from birth or alergies. Then at just a couple of weeks old she had pink eye when my other kids and no one else had it...I breast feed so I was a bit surprised. She always has a stuffy or runny nose and to date she has had pink eye about 10 times, she is fat and otherwise happy. She seems to taste salty to me and I have gotten mastitis 3 times in one month because of her runny nose. She is going to have a sweat test done but I can't sleep all I can do is lay next to her and watch her breath I can't stop crying and I am scared can all these symptoms just be random, does anyone have any ideas, could she have cf even though she has never had problems in her chest?

Has your daughter drooled as a baby? Most babies drool but babies with CF may not. Do her fingers shrivel r****ly in the bath? These are some of the other quirky CF signs. When you say that she is "fat" that is good because many children with CF are pancreatic insufficent and don't gain weight very well. Do you have pets in the home? My child without CF is allergic to dogs. If the runny nose is clear/white, one does tend to think allergies. Anyway, having the sweat test done will lend you some peace of mind.

DS has a poochy, fat tummy and when he was first born had really skinny arms and legs -- was below average in weight. Are her stools icky -- really runny and foul smelling? Usually with CF the lungs aren't affected right away -- either diagnosed because of a bowel obstruction due to meconium illeious, failure to thrive or the child ends up getting pneumonia or upper respiratory infections quite often. Don't panic!

Despite the CF diagnosis, DS is a happy -- BUSY toddler who just has to have a few treatments and a few extra drugs to keep infections away and his gi system working.

We do have dogs but I noticed her gongestion imediately after birth and the drainage from her nose is always green. I was born with a cleft palate and wondered if maybe she had something similar that was causing this but I haven't found any information suggesting that a cleft palate or adnoid problems could be causing this cronic nasal congestion however she will be having a CT that I would imagine would detect something like that.

Its hard to say about the poop thing because I think there nasty but then again its poop, generally she has about 1 bm every other day which always seemed normal since my other 2 children were like that, however the last week she goes about 5 times a day but I atribute that to the amoxacylin she has been on for an ear infection. She has been on that for over a week...it cleared up the ear thing but the sinus congestion has stayed the same.

This may sound a bit silly but I was told that another 'sign' of cf is having a second toe that is longer than the 1st which she has...is there any truth to this?
