I have switched my son from enfamil lipil with iron to prosobee. He has alot of problems with gas, not being able to poop, and spitting up (ALOT) He is gaining weight beautifully, so the doctor said he might just be eating too much. So we switched to the prosobee and it has been 3 days and he seems to spit up more, but he is now pooping on his own (without the help of prune juice the dr suggested) a couple of times a day. He is still passing a ton of gas. How long will it take for me to figure out if the prosobee is better for him? I think the added iron in the enfamil lipil was causing constipation, but I am not for sure. If any of this makes sense or someone can help, i'd really appreciate it.

Are you sure to burp him in the middle of feedings? I know when we didn't burp our son enough a bubble would build up, then when we were done, that burp would come up along with a lot of formula. There are other formulas too, like lactose free or ones with a lesser amount of iron.

I'd say give it a week or so and see what happens.

Yeah I would give it at least a week, unless it REALLY seems like it is bothering him of course :)

i switched from Humana to Enfmail with iron - only a few days ago and i noticed that the gas has increased and he's not pooping well... is it because of the iron?
i'd hate to switch again but he's staying up more at night because of it

How long has it been since you switched?

Give it some time for his/her body to get used to it.

I know switching my son from formula to milk made him not constipated but definitely harder stool.

You may want to try gas drops see if that helps. I dont think iron causes gas but can cause constipation.

well it has been over a week since i switched formula and i must say the baby is still spitting up about the same but he is pooping at least once daily. i think that the extra iron in the enfamil was causing my little one problems, he is still passing gas too, but it doesn't seem to be as much. hmmm i guess with the spitting up, he will grow out of it eventually, i just feel bad for him. overall i think he's doing a lil better on the prosobee. thanks to everyone for their opinions.
