Two years ago I had a stroke, TIA, which left me with little side effects except for a slight drooping of my left eye lid and lip. Three months after the stroke I had a Heart Attack and began my therapy immediately after to include speech therapy. After 9 months my doctor had doubled my dosage of my Zocor (statin) from 20mg to 40mg. within one month I began to have pain in my right shoulder and then spread to my legs and calf area. During this period I also began to slur my speech more than ever, where people could not understand what I was saying. It got to the point I could barely walk I was in so much pain. Finally after four months of taking the 40mg of ZOCOR I convinced my doctor to take me off it. After six months most of the pain has subsided, but the slurred speech has not. The neurologist had a MRI taken and additional blood test and so far nothing indicating the possible source. I'm now going for a Dysarthia evaluation and visiting several other Neurologist to brain storm over my condition and hopefully come up with a diagnosis. I might add, what is unusual is my speech is pretty normal when I get up each morning, but as the day progresses the slurring becomes more noticeable. By evening time it is very difficult for someone to understand my speech. Individuals who may not know me sometimes get the impression that I,ve been drinking.

Jerry,
Did not want you to think no one was willing to share with you. This post was in response to a similar question, but I thought it would not hurt to be seen hereas well.
Wife was on Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol. The later drug caused serious sides in 2002. Symptoms were the severe muscle ache and flu like problems without the runs or upchucks. Research at the time suggested "STATINS" were the problem. It was the week-end so we just stopped cold. The result was an 80% LOSS OF ALL STRENGTH. It has not returned even with rehab assistance. You should also know she was taking CO-Q-10 all along.
Bottom line is it has ruined her life and our retirement. Most doctors do not even recognize the symptoms and poo poo so many people and just do not make the connection. SO SAD.
Our advise***be cautious, careful, and vigilant, as "Rabdomyolysis " may do you in before you even know what the problem is all about.
My best to you all.

I took Lipitor for not quite a year when I developed severe leg pain.
The leg pain would wake me up at night and I was restricting my walking during the day due to it. I was actually hobbling around in the morning.
I took the medication at night before bedtime.
My blood work never raised a red flag to this side effect.
Finally decided on my own to get off Lipitor. Called the doctor's office to notify them I was stopping medication. The nurse wanted me to continue taking medication. I basically told her I would rather have the ability to walk and have high cholestrol then be crippled and have low cholestrol. The leg pain went away just a few weeks after stopping medication.
