My juvenile diabetes daughter age 26 had a seizure last year after taking imitrex. They ran every test known to man and said it was low blood sugar. She blacked out and had no short term memory and was in intensive care 3 days. Her friend is currently hospitalized, (adult onset type diabetes) with the exact same problem blacking out after taking imitrex. She blacked out while driving and doctor wants to put her in assisted living facility. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with these imitrex problems??? Thanks for your input.

Imitrex can trigger seizures because it works on Serotonin Neurons (Brain Cells) receptors. Imitrex is an agonist for a vascular 5-hydroxytryptamine1 receptor subtype (probably a member of the 5-HT1D family) having only a weak affinity for 5-HT1A, 5-HT5A, and 5-HT7 receptors and no significant affinity (as measured using standard radioligand binding assays) or pharmacological activity at 5-HT2, 5-HT3 or 5-HT4 receptor subtypes or at alpha1-, alpha2-, or beta-adrenergic, dopamine1,; dopamine2; muscarinic, or benzodiazepine receptors.
You see now... any drug that affects neurons in any way can trigger a seizure. I dont know why else it would cause problems with sugar levels.
