How are you? I know you said your doc was concerned that your dysplasia was going up in your cervix as well, just curious if you've heard if it is for sure or not yet. I go for my LEEP tomorrow... hoping it all goes well. If it is going up in your uterus, what will the next step be? Thanks for reading! :)

Val,
Hi there. I do not know any more about the dysplasia yet. I go for my first post-leep pap on Dec. 1st. That is when the doctor will also do an ECC (endocervical curretage) to confirm if the dysplasia is in the cervical canal (I sure hope not!). I really want to be done with the procedures as I want to start having kids as soon as the doc says it is safe. When I last spoke with the doctor, he said that I might have to have another LEEP if the pap comes back abnormal. After researching on the Internet...for endless hours...it seems to me that the next step would be a cold knife/cone biopsy (as it sounds like that procedure can get a deeper tissue sample). My doc did not mention that yet though. At my next appointment...I am going to bring a long list of questions. I never can seem to remember them all when I am there.

Good luck at your LEEP tomorrow. Are you going to be asleep for it or is it just in the doctor's office? Is this your first one? The procedure seemed very easy to me (I had it in the office). The recovery was not bad either. The hardest part is the time between the procedure and getting the results back. Seems like it takes forever!

Take care and let me know how it goes!

I'll be put to sleep for mine, and it'll be at the hospital. I actually have no insurance, and was going to the health dept. for my pap smear, but they don't do the LEEP there. So, I'll be at the hospital for it. I've never been put to sleep before. I'm not looking forward to having it done. My Mom is going to be watching my son. He's only 22 months old, and a Momma's Boy. Constantly tugging, pulling, etc. on me. So, we figured it might be easier if he just went to stay with her. We weren't planning on more children anytime soon, but do want to have them eventually. I'm just worried that if they have to do more treatment than this LEEP (if it is going up into my cervix) that it'll make it difficult to have children or have a normal pregnancy. Do you have any children? Well, I should go start supper. My husband will be home in about an hour, so duty calls. :) Thanks for the reply! :) Keep me updated.

Thanks:
Val

Val-
No, my husband and I had just finally decided we were ready to start a family - when I got the news I had to have the LEEP. So I am praying that another procedure is not necessary. My doctor knows how much I want to have kids and he does not seem to indicate I will have any problems. I am not sure if he does not want to stress me out (yet) or if he truly believes he can do multiple procedures without hindering my ability to have a baby. December 1st (my next appt.) could not get here soon enough! I have never been so excited to go to the doctor! :)

Good luck at your procedure tomorrow. Let me know how it goes. I am sure it will be nice to be asleep for the procedure (as you won't be as tense as I was). ;)

The LEEP went ok. (It was done this past Thursday.) I am in a little pain, nothing to severe. It went quickly, though. I hate wearing pads! Ick! :) I can't wait til I don't have to wear them anymore. I'll have a check up in two weeks. (Not this coming Tuesday, but the next.) It's not quite two weeks, actually. I don't know if I'll find out anything then or what. The doc didn't get to talk to me after the surgery, and didn't give my husband any details really. I can't wait to ask her if it's going into my cervical canal or if I'm in the clear. What do they do at the follow up appointment? Is it just a pap smear? Or the colpo, too? I don't think that was ever discussed with me. If it was, I don't remember. It's a lot of info to take in, though. I'm glad the LEEP is over. I definitely didn't want to have it done. I hope that this is the last of it, and that I won't have to worry about it going into my cervix or anything else. I'll keep you updated, though.

I have to call and see if mine will be covered by Emergency Medicade. I have no insurance. Fingers crossed! Wish me luck. I'll be calling tomorrow.

Have a great night, and thanks for the replies. :)

Glad to hear that everything went well and that you are done with the LEEP :D
My follow up was 4 weeks after my procedure and the doctor did not do anything except look at my cervix. I think it is too early to do anything to it - it needs to heal properly. My doctor always gives me my test results over the phone - and so he called me 2 weeks after the LEEP to give me the results. I suspect that is what your appointment in 2 weeks is for (to check your cervix and give you your results).

Hope you feel better soon!

So, does that mean you'll find out about whether there is any dysplasia still there at your four week apt.? I thought I'd find out when she got the results from the LEEP. Oh well, I suppose I can wait. Been waiting for everything else, right? :D Ok, well thanks again for the response. Have a good day.

No, I did not find out if there was still dysplasia then. I don't think they like to do the 1st PAP until about 3 months after the LEEP. Maybe your dr. is different though. If your LEEP results come back with clear (negative) margins - then there is a pretty good chance that they got it all.

I am somewhat expecting to still have dysplasia since the LEEP results had positive endocervical margins (meaning they might not have removed it all). I guess it is difficult for them to know since the edges of the biopsy are burned (they just know that there were bad cells extending all the way to the burned part of the sample. I guess they like to take a sample that is larger than the abnormal area so they know they got it all). So I might be healed :p but I won't know for another month.

Take care and let me know if you have any more questions!

Oh, ok. So, if the margins are clear, it's all gone. If not, it's possibly still there. I think I understand a little better. Sucks that you have to wait so long to find out after having a LEEP done. Oh well... I guess patience is a virtue. (That's what I hear anyway.) :D Well, I guess we'll be waiting together... I go to the doc Tuesday, I suppose I'll hear the results of the LEEP then. Happy waiting, right? :P

Have a nice night.

I know...the waiting is definately no fun. Hopefully they will tell you that the margins were clear (then you can at least rest easier until the next Pap). Hope your appointment goes well.
