hello lightgirl!! I wasnt aware that you could diagnose dysplasia with just a pap smear. for me, and many other women on this site, had abnormal pap smears. then the doctor did a colposcopy (rubbed vinegar solution on our cervix's) on us, and took biopsies of areas that seemed to have abnormal cells because abnormal cells react with the vinegar. The biopsies are then sent to a lab and looked at by lab technicians to see what type of dysplasia we have (CIN1, CIN11, CIN111). I have never heard of dysplasia being diagnosed by a pap and having a LEEP done without a colposcopy. The colposcopy helps determine the exact area of the abnormal cells (dysplasia). You might want to call your doctor or schedule another appointment with her.
As for the dysplasia coming back... well, it depends on why you have it. Your doctor should have done a blood test on you to test for HPV because it is the highly linked reason why women have dysplasia. You should do a little research on the internet about HPV, because you can find articles that will explain it better than me. Your doctor didnt sound very thorough, and I wouldnt procede with the LEEP without a colposcopy first. Just a little advise to those who are new to the abnomal pap group! hope this didnt discourage you and helped you!
